CPU runs hot

My CPU runs hot at 68 deg C in idling and touches 78 deg while gaming. Any suggestions to help me run below 62 deg at idling will be appreciated
SPECS
CPU - Phenom BE x4,3200 OC 3500
MB - GAMA790xUD4P
GPU - GTS 250 1 GB,nVidia
BIOS - F7
RAM - Gskill 1600,9-9-9-24
Chassis - Coolar master elite
6 Fans - 5 of them blow in,(1 at the rear panel bottom ,1 front panel bottom ,3  on the side opening cover)  and 1 at the front panel top blow out )

BIOS settings
Multiplier - 17.5
HTT -200
Mem voltage - +0.025 ( Normal does not boot )
NB VID - +0.100
CPU VID - +0.025

TEMP at idling
CPU - 67-68 deg C
GPU - 58-62 deg C
MB - 48 deg C
HDD - 42 deg C

Hi,

you don't say what kind of cooler you are using on your CPU but, if you are using the stock AMD one then my advice would be to get hold of a different one.

Another area to check is the thermal paste. Something like the Noctua NT-H1 is a really good one and sometimes just changing this an re-seating the CPU cooler can make a difference.

The AMD CPU's do tend to be a little on the toasty side, especially when you overclock and making sure you have enough direct cooling as well as a good air flow through the chassis is very important. I personally use the Noctua NH-D14 Air cooler and noticed a substantial drop in temperatures once I changed. Just to add to absic's advice your case fans are out of balance 5 blowing in and only 1 blowing out is not going to create a good airflow through the case. Try and balance them more evenly and get a nice steady flow of air through the case.

What case are you using? Can you post any picture links?

Yes not a great case as far as the cooling goes. What about using the rear and side fans for pushing and the front and top for pulling? That should give a more balanced airflow past all the main components.

When I was using the Stock cooler I also got the kind of figures that you are reporting, (I was using the AMD Phenom ii X4 965BE C2 140W) that was why I changed it. You don't have to go to the expense of the Cooler I chose but it might be worth investing some money into a different CPU Cooler as you will really get better temps and also more headroom for further Overclocking.

That is what I was thinking ie., blow out front panel top & bottom. Will try this evening and report back.By the way I have a 6" Coolar master fan at the front bottom and a standard 3" inch at front panel top. Will reverse air flow of 6"fan from blow in to blow out.

I think that is at least worth a try and it's not costing you anything, although I do agree with absic that a good CPU fan and paste is important.

Even if you do have good case airflow, if you're overclocking a 3rd party heatsink/fan is a must. Like absic115 said the NH-D14 works well on AMDs

This is very true, I have excellent airflow through my NZXT Tempest Evo and I was still getting high temperatures on the CPU until I changed Heatsink.

Reversed 6" front panel bottom fan. No improvement seen. Will have to seek a good CPU coolar. Unfortunately Noctua fans are not available on this side;India. Will have to try something else like Coolar master

Even if it hasn't made any difference to your CPU temps it will have improved the general airflow in your case. This will help all the components and once you change your CPU cooler it will all make a difference.

Side panel down 2 fans 2" - flow out - directly above GPU
Side panel above CPU 4" fan - flow in
Front panel top  4" fan - flow out
Front panel  bottom 6" fan- flow out
Result
CPU Temp ~ 65 deg C
GPU Temp 52~56 deg C
MB Temp ~48 deg C
HDD Temp ~42 deg C
