GA-EP45C-DS3R v1.0 video card question
« on: August 02, 2010, 08:51:08 am »
Hy,

I want to buy a new video card for my PC. The video card I want is Gainward GTX460 GLH, 1024MB GDDR5, dual-HDMI, DVI-I, PCI-E, with a nvidia chipset http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=395 . I talked with a friend and he told me that my motherboard is optimized fot ATI chipset and that a video card with nvidia chipset will not run at full perfomance and he recomended HIS ATI Radeon HD 5830 iCooler V Turbo, 1024MB, DDR5, 256bit, Full HD1080p, HDMI, PCI-E. I still want to buy the nvidia one, but now I have doubts. Now I have a Gigabyte 9500 GT with nvidia chipset and works just fine. All I want to know is if nvidia video card will work at full perfomance or not. thank you.

the motherboard is GA-EP45C-DS3R http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2871&dl=1#sp

and other

Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q9650 (12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB)

Mushkin DDR2 4GB PC2-8500

Gigabyte 9500 GT 128 bits 512 MB Ram

Sirtec HP-650-G14C 650W

There shouldn't be an issue with the Nvidia card but personally, I would go with your friends recommendation of the ATI 5830. I used to be a strong Nvidia advocate but at the moment the ATI cards and AMD Drivers have the edge and if it was my money that is the one I would get.  ;)

I would also agree that the ATI card is better but there is no reason that you cant run the nVidia card perfectly if you are still sure that is what you want.

The GTX 460 has shown to be a good card vs the HD 5830 in benchmarks.

Rubbish! A cards a card the only thing that motherboard is optimized for is crossfire because it can't do SLi thats all it is any one card regardless of what it is will run 100%.

Yes now they have dropped the price it is a contender, I would have to agree. Personally though I would still go for the ATI and it gives you eyefinity which  love.
