RAID Issue on GA-EX58-UD3R rev 1.0
« on: August 14, 2010, 01:41:30 am »
Summary of problem:
Computer was set up with the following two RAID-1 arrays which were then separated into distinct drives after a BIOS update.
(Computer specs on bottom of thread)

Array 1
==========
2 - 640GB Western Digital Black

Array 2
==========
2 - 1.5TB Western Digital Black

Issue: Both RAID arrays were working and being reported in Intel Matrix Storage Manager. I updated the BIOS of the motherboard from version F2 to version F11, which wiped out the arrays and left all four drives reporting as separate drives in Windows. Windows was installed on the 640GB array, and no data was on the 1.5TB array.

What I Need to Have Done:
The main priority is to get the RAID-1 array of the 640GB drives (Windows installed on these) back online WITHOUT a loss of data. These drives were mirroring the operating system as well as 345GB of professional photographs.

Secondary Objective:
After reviving the RAID-1 array of the 640GB drives without data loss, a RAID-1 array of the 1.5TB drives will need to be set up.

What I have done:
Backed up all important data to a single 1.5TB drive, then unplugged both 1.5TB drives from the system.

Thank you for your help in this matter. If you need any more information, please let me know.

Computer Specs:
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R
Core i7 920
3x2GB DDR3-1333
ATI 4830
Vista 64 bit
2x 640GB
2x 1.5TB
*Using integrated RAID controller)

Go into the BIOS and change SATA mode back to RAID.

If this does not work flash your BIOS back to F2 and do the above then install Rapid Storage Technology.

now you should be able to flash your BIOS back F11
