EP31-DS3L Ram Problem

Hi everyone

First I Google and I found someone had the exactly same problem but his problem is not resolved, So plz read his topic first, Here is the topic :

I already have Kingston 1gb ddr2 800mhz and Kingston 1gb ddr2 800mhz so I bought today two new ram each one is  Kingston 1gb ddr2 800mhz so I'll not get any problem, When i installed the 2gb new ram I was sad because it was 2gb running only because the sale man said he can't take it and give me my money because I open the ram, So I tried to put The two new ram one In slot 3 and one In slot4 and put one 1gb from the old one In slot 1 then I turn on my pc and then I saw it's become 3gb in the bios and windows I was happy I said to my self now sure it's not problem from the motherboards or ram It's just I didn't put the ram well and now I did so now it's 3gb ram running fine then i put the old ram in slot 2 and turn on my pc the bios and windows still say 3gb ram only not 4gb i became again sad, Can someone help me to solve this problem

Gigabyte EP31-DS3L @ Latest bios
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU    Q9550  @ 2.83GHz
GTX 275
OS Windows 7 x64 (64-bit)

Well the first thing to do is check each of the modules with Memtest86+  one at a time . Let the program run for several loops on each and see if any faults are discovered.

Thank u for reply,This the first time to use memtest86+ and i don't know when should i stop the test so i finish the test after 1:09 and under errors is 16128 does it need more time than that ? and what do u mean by ( check each of the modules with Memtest86+  one at a time ) i already installed the 4 ram on motherboards do i need to do something different ? here is pic during the test so u can tell what does it mean :

Well I mean unplug all the modules but one. When you have tested that one change it over and try another. You have faulty memory there somewhere.

Sorry i didn't understand what u mean,

1 - Do u mean to try only 1gb ram in each slot ( to see if there any problem with any slot )

or

2 - Do u mean to try each ram in any slot doesn't matter which slot ( to see if there any problem with one of the ram )

and when should i stop the test ?

Hi,

What Dark Mantis meant was that you should test one stick of RAM at a time and it is better if you use just one of the memory slots on the motherboard.

For example: Test your first stick of RAM in Slot 1 on the motherboard. Run Memtest for 2 passes or until errors show. Then swap the first stick of RAM for the second stick using the same motherboard slot. Run Memtest again. You should do this for each stick of RAM.

Testing RAM this way takes a bit of time but it will show if an individual stick has a problem. If all your sticks of RAM pass Memtest using just the 1st Memory slot on the motherboard then it is possible that there is a faulty memory socket on the motherboard, but testing for that will come later.

Not sure what revision your motherboard is but you may be correct. I just lifted this from the Rev2.0 manual:
Due to chipset limitation, read the following guidelines before installing the memory in Dual Channel mode.
1. Dual Channel mode cannot be enabled if only one DDR2 memory module is installed.
2. When enabling Dual Channel mode with two or four memory modules, it is recommended that
memory of the same capacity, brand, speed, and chips be used and installed according to the
configurations in the first table for optimum performance.
3. Because of chipset limitations, do not populate both DIMM sockets of the same channel
(e.g. DDR2_1 and DDR2_2) with double-sided memory modules to prevent system's failure to
start or incorrect detection of memory modules.

On your motherboard the rule is only single sided modules if you are filling all the slots. See page 16  http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/motherboard_manual_ga-ep31-ds3l_e.pdf

Nooooooooo , Anyway can u tell me what is the use of Intel INF installation ? and  do i need to install it ?
