RAM disappearing from EX58-Extreme
« on: August 26, 2010, 12:07:06 am »
I recently installed a new CPU waterblock and graphics card and since then I am never able to use all of my RAM

(Spec in sig)

BIOS detects 4GB, but then CPU-z detects each stick in Windows as well as Windows showing the full 6GB of RAM. However, next to that it said only 4GB was usable, and CPU-z said the RAM was only in Dual Channel.
I rebooted and checked in the BIOS, everything is fine in there, but now only 2GB is usable in Windows (one stick) in Dual Channel from CPU-z (not sure how that works?) but all 3 are still able to be detected.

Using Windows 7 64 Bit, memory isn't limited in MSCONFIG.

The crucial point here seems to be that everything was working until the upgrade. Make sure that you haven't overtightened the CPU waterblock down. Apart from that try Memtest86+ to make sure that all your sticks are in good condition. I take it that you didn't update the BIOS or anything similar at the same time?

Sticks work seperately by their own in the first slot. Just tried updating the BIOS, didn't help. Now it keeps going in a POST loop saying "Recovering lost DRAM size" and reboots over and over. What gives?

EDIT: Just loosened the waterblock a little. Only 4GB is being detected in the BIOS still, not able to get into Windows as it keeps rebooting at "Recovering lost DRAM size"

You could try clearing the CMOS, that might help. Otherwise it sounds like a faulty memory problem to me. :-\

Ok I tried the following configurations with the following results:

DRAM stick 1 in slot 1 : Black screen when loading windows
DRAM stick 1 in slot 3 : Black screen when loading windows
DRAM stick 2 in slot 1 : BSoD on login screen (rdyboost.sys)
DRAM stick 2 in slot 3 : BSoD on login screen (rdyboost.sys)
DRAM stick 3 in slot 1 : Black screen when loading windows
DRAM stick 3 in slot 3 : BSoD on login screen (rdyboost.sys)

I have no idea what caused this, just had a nice gaming session of Fallout 3 and a bit of COD: MW2 with no issue.
Is this the motherboard or the RAM (or both?) Temperature of CPU was around 38C at 4.05 GHz with 1.26Vcore when gaming.

Problem solved. CPU was becoming unstable because I couldn't remember all the individual voltage settings from before the BIOS flash. No idea why it disappeared in the first place. Will be on a overclocking mission tomorrow to get back to 4.35Ghz though. Thanks for the help!
