Esata settings and what is best
« on: August 28, 2010, 04:34:14 pm »
I have GA-X58A-ud3r board with lots of Esata sockets , yes, I do not know what I am doing.

Which is best to use and why and why does the ide DVD drive show up on  Gsata 8. I have connect with 80 wire ribon cable to IDE socket on board.
In Bios I have disabled al the Sata devices except 8&9 but the single HDD I have is still detected on Sata socket 0

I do not yet have raid and doubt I will yet.

The best SATA sockets to use are the Intel ICH10 ones. They are the fastest on the board unless you are running SSDs. Your other problem is that it doesn't seem to be a good idea to mix the SATA and PATA devices on the one motherboard even though there are the fascilities for such. I am not speaking from experience here just what I have read in other posts.

I might buy a PATA to SATA converter then as the existing case is quite neat and tidy, I did this on my other build.
It worked quite well.
