GA-M720-US3 high temps with athlon II x4 640 CPU
« on: August 29, 2010, 02:17:00 pm »
Hi. I have a mobo m720-us3 rev 1.0 with an athlon II x4 640 cpu and many monitoring softwares including speed fan, everest  shows CPU Temp in idle is about 50* C. The core temps seems ok just 20* C in idle. The bios is the latest available for this mobo F7K which is a beta bios. Previously I had an athlon x2 4800+ and the temperatures where much lower. Could this be a bios issue not beeing able to detect properly the temperatures with the new CPU ?
Both the CNQ and AMD C1E are enabled.

Hi there,

I've noticed from own testing that software apps such as Core Temp do not accurately report the CPU temps with the newer AM3 CPU's. the best at reporting is actually EasyTune6.

The Athlon X4 620 has a max temp threshold of 71°C so you are well within that. Another thing I have noticed with these newer CPU's is how poorly the Stock Coolers seem to be and with my own X6 1090T the only way I was able to bring temps down significantly was to use a 3rd party Cooler.

Software Applications are not always accurate and it is much better to consider them a guide. The best way to check your actual CPU temp is to restart your PC and go into BIOS - PC Health Status where you will get a much better reading of the real temp that your CPU is running at.

The bios reported temperature for CPU is even bigger it's about 62 C. And  the CPU is not 620 is 640 it' s a pretty big difference between those 2...about 400 Mhz. I stiil think it's a bios related issue stlli being a beta.

Sorry just a typo the 640 max temp is 71°C.

I also have had doubts about the reported temperatures so I have a couple of hardware sensors installed in my system. These show that on my PC (which also runs a beta BIOS) that CoreTemp, AMD Overdrive, and Everest are between 5 - 8°C out. EasyTune6 reports the temps pretty accurately. If it was a BIOS issue this would also report inaccurate figures.
