X58A-UD3R with i7 930
« on: September 05, 2010, 10:23:25 am »
Couple of issues I'm having.  Worth noting that I currently don't have an OS installed on this pc.

1.  When I turn on the PC I get the DDR LEDs light up... I'm assuming this is a configuration change that needs to be done in the BIOS?

2.  The CPU fan is sometimes making a 'ticking' sound when the case is vertically standing.  When I lay it on its side it goes back silent.  I have just taken the heatsink off and attached it again, and it went away, but I'm thinking it'll happen again.

3.  After a few seconds the DDR LEDs will turn off, but as they do the Phase LED's flicker once.  Sometimes when I start up they're on constant like the DDR LED's.  Is this a BIOS change that needs to be made?

All LED's turn off after a few seconds.

Thanks

I suffer exactly the same thing, fans power up, ddr lights all come on, then fans power down and a flash of the southbridge led for a split second and it loops again, nothing on the monitor.

Hi and welcome to the forum. What you are describing is absolutely normal as the POST continues. The fan noise is I suspect just a cable or something touching the fan blades.

I suffer exactly the same thing, fans power up, ddr lights all come on, then fans power down and a flash of the southbridge led for a split second and it loops again, nothing on the monitor.

Thanks for the reply Dark Mantis.

A question though, why is it only the DDR LED's that come on at start up and not the others? Do I have a config issue with my memory?

To be honest I am not really sure but  I know that a lot of the lights illuminate or flicker when starting up. Just part of the POST process. What beeps do you get on POSTing?

None, but this board didn't come with speaker cable.  It came with HD Audio cable that I plug in near the NB, which I assume performs the same function?

No I am afraid it doesn't. If you haven't got one then you need to purchase a buzzer(very cheap) and connect it to the FPC block on the motherboard which is marked speaker.

I'll have to do some hunting for one of those... Is it generally only an issue if the lights stay on after POST?

Most of the lights should go out as POST proceeds. It depends on the settings you have on the motherboard.
