gigabyte x58a-ud3r rev 2.0 sleep / hybrid sleep issues

Hi,
I have Windows 7 x64 setup on the GA-X58A-UD3R rev 2.0 board with the FB BIOS (was running the beta earlier and did not have any issues).  The system seems to work fine throughout the day, sleeping when I leave it alone and waking fine.  But overnight or every morning I come down and it is either all lights off or all lights on (the case), but will not wakeup with mouse and keyboard activity - it will not respond to a reset either, I must hold the power down for the 4 seconds then restart.  Most of the time it goes through a Windows resuming message, but sometimes it will give me the option that it cannot resume and to clear the resume state and start.  The machine is hooked up to an Iogear KVM, but no other machines exhibit this behavior as well as with the beta bios it seemed to work fine.

Must I load the Gigabyte Utilities to have this function correctly? Which ones?  Any help to point me in the right direction would be appreciated...

BIOS setting are optimal with exact numbers entered for memory (hate OCZ for not having profiles), and power saving features are all enabled.

Well if the BIOS version you were running before was OK why change? The only reason to update really is if you have a problem or the new BIOS offers an upgrade that helps with a compatibility.
From your description the problem would seem to lie with the power saving modes. Have you checked in the Windows Power Management to see how it is configured?

Well, I thought it best to get off the beta BIOS...  My mistake.  Windows is configured with the default power settings - hybrid is in the sleep settings.  I guess first, how is the board supposed to wake from hybrid sleep?  The beta BIOS doesn't seem to be available anymore to go back and really test against.

Try setting the Windows Power Settings to "Performance" and see if that helps. You might find that the older BIOS version is still available on the tweaktown Forum.

Does intel turbo mode have to be turned off for sleep to function properly?  I do not mind the resume in the mornings, but another thing i have noticed is that the network always fails to work in the morning without a full reboot (waking from hybrid sleep)?  This is my first i7 build, i have always used Gigabyte boards in the past (love GA-EP45-UD3P), but never have I had this much difficulty with Win 7 and Gigabyte...  If I were manually overclocking I would understand the sleeps issuse, but the intel turbo seemed to me to be a "approved" clock change.  I do notice that it always boots with a 22 multiplier (set to 21 in bios).

I must admit to really not knowing. It could well be an issue so why not try turning it off and see what difference it makes.

Yes, if you need the older BIOS version that worked for you we should have it archived at TweakTown in the BIOS sticky.

Beta BIOS is fine to use, and it's all I ever use, so there isn't any reason to not use one unless you have issues with a certain one or something like that.   They are fine to use, and I suggest them everyday to users.

Well, I am a little tired of messing with it, so I for the time being have just set the Windows Power Options to "High Performance" so that it never sleeps...  I guess I will have to just shut it down every night.  I guess I could try another power supply and see if that helps - in my experience if everything test out fine but you see weirdness look to the PS?!?!

An awful lot more problems come down to the PSU in the end than most people realise. It could be the basic issue.

Rev. 2.0 sleep issues just may not be corrected yet in the BIOSes, not sure as I have not seen enough reports on this either way yet to know.

I can say however if it worked for you on a previous BIOS, and you need it, then it would be best to go back to that BIOS version for now until you hear for sure reports that it again works on newer BIOSes.

Upgraded a week or to from FB16 to FB BIOS and had some other issues going on, but also started to have your problem where computer would not resume from sleep.  I just reloaded FB16 using QFLASH technique, and two things happened.  First, I had set the BIOS option for SATA3 firmware to AUTO.  This caused my SATA3 controller's firmware to be updated at first boot.  I don't know if this was newer or OLDER firmware than it had before, because I don't know if it was updated when I loaded FB - I didn't pay attention.  The second thing I noticed was that resume from sleep works again.

Therefore I conclude that either a change in SATA3 controller firmware or rolling back to bios FB16 or both caused resume from sleep to resume working.

That is interesting. I don't suppose that you want to re-flash to FB to prove it one way or the other?

Yes, I am sick of the issue right now, but sooner or later I will have to know, and I will do that.  BTW, I am running a 1 TB HD for data although system drive is Intel SSD, and I have applied a Windows 7 hotfix about delayed startup of those drives, but that did not solve the problem.

I appreciate how you feel and I would probably be the same. Thanks for the info on the hotfix though. Just let us know if you do re-flash and the result please.
