Odd. Try clearing the CMOS and then running the BIOS update again but this time on the first BIOS update(QFlash) screen select the clear DMI setting. Then load BIOS optimised defaults and F10 to save and exit.

Done.... looks like its flashing properly now. But I have no idea how to update the backup bios. Only thing I can see is an option on the Advanced BIOS Features screen to enable "Backup BIOS Image to HDD" and I'm sure that doesn't work as I've been consistently enabling that since you guys starting helping me a few weeks ago. Plus I've enabled it many times tonight and the versions are still different.

When try to save bios to disk in q flash, it only gives me the option to save to removable disks, which doesn't solve anything... I have plenty backups on my flash drive.

That's great news anyway that you have finally managed to perform the update successfully.
You are not the only person to have trouble with updating the Backup BIOS. I am looking into it at present and will get back to you as soon as I have any news.

Okay! I reread this thread and remembered that lsd said alt f12, which worked. I confirmed it in the bios f9 dialog. Ill have to run some tests tomorrow.

That's the way. I am glad that the Alt + F12 trick worked as others have said it failed.

Okay. My computer still does the restart on shut down deal... what's the next solution?

OK can you just refresh my memroy on the exact symptoms of the problem?

When I choose "Shut Down" in my OS, the computer shuts off for a second, then restarts.

This causes me to have to force off the comp, which always causes the BIOS to think my BIOS settings are messed up, so it resets and causes other issues.

The first thing to check is that it is n ot something stupid like a sticky switch. Remove the connectors for the front panel switches from the motherboard and then try again. You will have to turn it on via the motherboard switch. Post again when you have tried this.

What motherboard switch? Does that mean I have to turn it on with the case open? :yikes:

Yes! No big deal really. A lot of people run their computers with the cases open all the time for ventilation. Especially in Australia and hotter places like that. Don't worry about the electricity as the voltages are all small and not harmful to humans.

Where is the onboard switch?

That's the bad news There doesn't seem to be one on this motherboard so you will have to do it the same as us techs. Using a small screwdriver short out the two pins that you took the Start switch off. They are on the top row pins 3&4 when counted from the left.You only need to touch them both at the same time to start the computer. Let it boot up and run for a while and then try and shut it down as before and see iof the problem still persists.

2. When I Shut Down in Win7, my computer automatically restarts(!), and when I force it off, it thinks it failed to startup and resets all my clock settings. (It turns off XMP which puts my RAM from its rated 1600mhz down to 1066, and puts my CPU to 21 multiplier).

You may have done this, but Googling Windows 7 restart issues produces a number of hits where folks attribute this to certain drivers triggering restarts upon shutdown.  Just another thing to consider, perhaps a driver was updated about the time you loaded FB.  Long shot, but...

Long shot sure, but easier than putting a screwdriver to my mobo :p I'll try that first.

What are the chances that putting a screwdriver to my mobo totally screws something up? (pun not intended, but I'll take it).
