GA-890GPA-UD3H: no DVI output
« on: September 23, 2010, 02:05:34 am »
New system...at first power on, I thought was no POST, so I rechecked everything, finally including a different monitor, this time attached to d-sub rather than dvi.  Everything then worked, installed Win7, drivers, etc.

HOWEVER, when I change back to my good monitor on the DVI port I see nothing (i.e. the initial problem).  I have done a "battery out" CMOS reset and reloaded optimized defaults.  Didn't fix. Didn't think I should have to, but I also changed the "IGX configuration Onboard VGA output connect" from "Auto" to "D-SUB/DVI" and changed "Init Dispaly First" from "PCI Slot" to "OnChipVGA".  Still no DVI output.

If I hook both monitors up, Windows only sees the one connected to the d-sub  (as I would expect, since BIOS setup won't output to DVI port)

I hope there's something about the excitement of a new system that's causing me to loose my mind and overlook something.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's possibly just down to the monitor not being compatible. It doesn't happen very often but I have seen it a few times on the forum.

Agree with DM. To my knowledge, D-Sub is the least common denominator. I have installed systems over D-Sub and switched later. I had an issue with monitor not being correctly recognised over HDMI (not DVi though) by Fedora. Fedora 13 release fixed that issue and I can now use HDMI during new system installation as well.

Thank you for your replies.  I just tried HDMI out to my TV and it works.  To resolve the issue, I'll try to either borrow a different monitor with DVI input and/or buy some kind of adapter if available.  I'll post back only if this doesn't work.  Thanks again, I was becoming overly frustrated.

If only companies worked to agree to standards and implement them! How often has PnP been more like Plug and Pray rather than Plug and Play?!!  :D

Ah this is so true.  :P
