GTX 470 SOC voltage tweaking warranty

GTX 470 SOC voltage tweaking warranty

Hello guys, is the Gigabyte GTX 470 Super-overclock edition covered under warranty for voltage tweaking ?

The software that came with the card (OC Guru) allows voltage tweaking among other things and I was wondering if it's safe to use this feature.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
The short answer is no. Gigabyte does not cover any of it's products for overclocking. That would be done at your own risk. I understand that it does seem strange to supply the software but not warrant using it, but most hardware manufacturers are the same. ;)

You are welcome. It is something that many of us find curious especially as Gigabyte actually host Overclocking Championships with their own hardware used. I suppose though that if they did allow it anyone could clock their cards and boards to destruction and then claim on the warranty. Corporate suicide.

Well I head that EVGA will RMA defective cards due to overclocking and I thought Gigabyte would do the same thing for the SOC edition.

Anyway, I won't be overlocking this card since there's no point right now. It runs everything I throw at it without any probs. Temps reach around 80 degrees in full load which is pretty much identical to my old 8800 GTS.

That's about right. That card is powerful even by today's standards and overclocking it would just push the temperature up even further. ;)
