Have you tried replacing the CPU with the old one and seeing if that still works in the motherboard? If it does I would be looking at two things either the BIOS flash didn't take properly or the CPU is faulty.

I just had another thought on the subject, did you clear the DMI settings and the CMOS as well as updating the BIOS?

Yes after the flashing of the bios I rebooted the computer and all was working ok if it was a bad bios flash then the i7 965 wouldn’t work either or am I talking rubbish. ???

No it could be just that the BIOS update didn't take properly and you could be left with your old BIOS still working. Probably not but it is a possibility and obviously the old CPU would still work.

You would need to clear the DMI when you do the BIOS flash. It is on the main QFlash page. It is an option to clear DMI. Then you can also clear the CMOS memory as well afterwards.

Went into the bios to check that the bios had updated and it was telling me F4 were as before it was FI no I didn’t clear the DMI or coms before flashing the F4 bios.

So can I re-flash the bios using Q-flash will that work or is it too late?

Yes there is nothing stopping you from running the QFlash of the BIOS again. Just do exactly like you did before but this time when you enter the QFlash utility there is an option (I think it is the top one) to keep DMI settings just select no and then continue as last time.

Well in that case I would have to come down on the side of a faulty CPU. It is always possible that it is a power problem but your PSU seems more than capable even though you have some power hungry components. I think I would RMA the CPU.  ;)
