Athlon II x4 620 core temps question

I have an Athlon II x4 620 in a M61PME-S2P motherboard (Rev 1.0) running at default speed with stock cooler.  Using "core temp" I'm seeing temps in the 34c - 40c range at idle/light load.  Is this pretty normal?  The reason I ask is I'm getting beeps from the motherboard when I run Youtube videos sometimes.  When I run an HD video the temp doesn't rise above 40c so the beeping isn't a temperature warning.  The warning settings in the BIOS at set to trigger at 60c.  Any ideas what could be going on here?

This is not my domain so I am not that familiar with the board in question, however beeps like you are describing are emitted for one of two things:
1) Thermal alarms
2) Fan alarms
Both of these are normally set from the BIOS so maybe it would be a good idea to check the settings there.

Thanks for the reply.  I've checked in the BIOS and the settings appear correct - the CPU fan is being monitored and the temps are well below the 60c ceiling so the problem must be elsewhere.

Hi there,

Your CPU temp would seem to me to be about normal using the stock cooler. You could try reseating the cooler, remembering to replace the thermal grease, as sometimes this can help lower them a bit more. Also, check the airflow through your PC Chassis is adequate as sometimes this can also lead to slightly higher temps.

As DM says, the BEEPS do sound like warning alarms and the only way of knowing for sure is to try disabling them, one at a time, to see if the beeping stops. I have come across situations where AMD's Cool N Quiet technology can slow the Cooler fan down to the point that the alarm is set off, even though there is nothing wrong and this is the first place that I would look as the probable cause.

Are you using easytune. I had similar problem and the culprit was easytune not sensing fan rpm.

No, not using easytune.  I did upgrade to the latest BIOS (F7B) which didn't make a difference.  I installed Core Temp so I could monitor CPU temperature.  It confirms that the CPU is not overheating during the beeping.  I disabled the setting in the BIOS for CPU temp monitoring and that put a stop to it.  It seems the problem is in the BIOS software since the CPU never reaches 60C which is the default threshold to trigger the warning.

Have you contacted Gigabyte Technical Support about this issue? If disabling the CPU Temp Monitoring in BIOS has stopped the beeping a tweak to the BIOS code might be all that is needed. I would report this, so at least they are aware there is an issue here.
