I am having a slight problem, usually I figure the problems out on my own but I thought i'd give asking around a shot. So here it is. I am trying to overclock and it seems that I get the error "Warning! Now system is in safe mode. Please re-setting CPU frequency in CMOS setup" even if I overclock by the slightest bit it will give this message, if anyone could help id greatly appreciate it. thank you

First of all, the bios you're using is a beta version so it could be the culprit. Unless you tried overclocking with older bios versions with the same result?

Other than that, after looking around some it'd seem that this issue is most often caused by power issues somewhere or mistakes when overclocking.

One of the easier things to check would be unplugging the PC and resetting CMOS or, if that won't work, take out the CMOS battery for a minute or so.

Maybe try upping the voltage a little on FSB, NB and CPU, lower your RAM multiplier by 1 and try raising FSB frequency by 1. Leave everything else stock. If it won't work then, most likely, we can rule out overclocking being done wrong.

Just in case, please let us know what is your PSU?

Yea that was the only bios version I could find atm, but I did seem to have similar issues with the older bios. It could be the power being supplied to the cpu itself seing as the bios options have no controls for adjusting the Vcore. Actually when I noticed I couldnt overclock thats exactly what I did, is up the FSB to 201 x13 then the ram to 4.0/800mhz to 3.33/670mhz and still had the same results as before, I havnt tried removing the battery as of yet but on several occasions have had to reset the bios via jumper after adjusting the ram speed and having no post. Thank you for your time and help.

KHX6400D2K2/4gr. Well atm i'm not really worried about ram (I know there connected) speed until I can overclock my cpu but 800mhz stock x4.0.

If you're 100% sure there's no Vcore setting I'd start with going back to an older bios.

Don't "update" it through Q-Flash as that method isn't very reliable.

Here's a link to all bios versions, F6 should be fine:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3009#bios

That's the easiest thing to rule out atm.

:o

I really don't know why you said that because it is far safer than using @BIOS which is run through the OS.
It is much safer to run BIOS updates through the QFlash Utility that is part of the BIOS ;)

Agreed, I re-flashed to F6 and still not luck. I did notice when I overclock it takes substantially longer to post then it normally does, like said before could this be a power issue maybe VCore shortage? Thank you again to everyone for your help

Have you disabled the Keep DMI Data on the QFlash homepage when you flashed the new BIOS update? If not do it again and this time make sure you clear the old data.  Also clear the CMOS and then load Optimised BIOS settings, then try and run at defaults first. If that is ok then you can try your overclock settings.

Ah, man. Sorry, ofc I meant the @BIOS as not being reliable. That's what you get when you're tired and trying to write something meaningful :-[. Remember kids, learning anatomy and posting about computers don't mesh well ;D!

Ok, I don't think the PSU is your problem but what GPU do you have? And how old is the PSU?

Can you adjust Vcore now or is it still impossible? Is the option even there but grayed out, etc. or completely gone from bios? Have you tried CTRL+F1 to see if there are any hidden settings in your bios?

Other than that it COULD be the CMOS battery giving up the ghost but the Vcore adjustment problem is bothering me. Not to mention that, technically, there should be some warning to the battery dying.

Right, first do what DM wrote.

Hi there,

I've just had a bit of a shock. I've been going through the User's Manual for your Motherboard and, from what I can see, there are none of the usual options that you find on newer boards for tweaking things in BIOS and it doesn't show M.I.T. (Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker) as being in your BIOS.

Have Gigabyte added this option to the BIOS in the later updates?

I also noticed that there is no mention of EasyTune being supported on this board and I am wondering if you will actually be able to O/C with this system.

Could you post some images of your BIOS screens for us? If you're not show how to upload images check here: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,22.0.html you will need to use a site like Image Shack to host your images but it is free.

EDIT: spent some time searching the internet and other resources and came across this thread: http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/printpage/721 at hardware secrets. It seems that the only available options for overclocking are accessed by pressing Ctrl +  F1 on the BIOS home screen. Overclocking options on this board are very limited and you might not be able to successfully overclock your CPU.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Well after trial and thank god no errors,I disabled the DMI option when I flashed and  I was able to clock out to 210 (which isn't much.) I found the only bios that lets me do so is F5 which does have M.I.T. and the cpu features. I also did some research from people with this same board who said they also had problems overclocking and that the max they could increase CPU to was 210 with any CPU installed. I got this mobo and cpu combo a while back from just didn't have the time to put it in. CTRL+F1 only brings of cpu options like multiplier, fsb adjuster and that's basically it.
