GA-P55-US3L: latching SATA connectors or not?

Are the SATA ports on a GA-P55-US3L latching types? And therefore can SATA2 cables with built-in latches be used in them?

I'm presuming that if you try to insert a latching cable into a non-latching port you'll damage the port. Is this the case?

No, if you use latching cables on non-latching ports you won't damage anything, I know as I have done this. The only problem can be with the fact that they don't sit as well so can seem to be a little loose but it never affected the systems stability.

Yes me too I am using them now on my backup machine and there doesn't appear to be any problems involved.

Ya, you can use either type and it will be fine

That's good to learn. Have hitherto been undecided when out-and-about looking for SATA2 cables for my proposed new machine.

So, with the latest Gigabyte boards, are the SATA ports on the board mechanically of the latching kind, or are they just plain vanilla non-latching types. I've yet to purchase the board.

Certainly most of the boards are now coming with latching port connectors, in fact it is now a part of the standard I understand.
