The other partitions already existed on the drive.  They are used as a dual boot for an older software development environment I can't run on my primary boot.

It might be a good idea to re-install and, if possible, clean the partition you are going to install onto first.

If you have done an upgrade, Windows will Back-up the old OS and store it in a folder on the hard drive. Once the upgrade has been completed you can safely remove this Back-up folder and, it is a good idea to do so to prevent any problems.

I assume you're talking about Windows.old.  I moved it to a backup drive.

Gosh, by now I've invested nearly two weeks in rebuilding and configuring my system.  During the install, it said it would clean the partition, that's why I was surprised to see old stuff in the root directory.

I should mention, I solved the mailreader problem.  It was a problem with the mailreader itself that required editing a dll.

I know what you mean. I had to re-install my OS over the weekend and it still hasn't settled down yet.

As I re-install frequently I have actually done a back-up image of the drive, after I installed the OS and loaded the basic motherboard drivers (chipset, LAN, USB3) I didn't load other drivers such as graphics or sound as they seem to get up dated so often. It does save me about an hour each time I re-install. Luckily, Windows 7 has a very useful back-up feature and, for a change, it is something that it works well.
