i have a ati 4870 in my sons pc my old one that was working fine b4 i *upgraded* lol and the crappy one he had not sure what that one is but i will have to wait till the morning to have a look as he is using his pc atm and i never over clock on what ccc has as defult i was reading some posts today and they all seemed to point to the clock mhz playing up or not enough power i have 850 wats but its only a icute psu

It would be worth trying either of the older cards just to see if it makes any difference. A different make would have been ideal but if you don't have access to one then that is a mute point.

I am not personally familiar with the icute PSUs but I know from my forrays onto the Australian Whirlpool Forums that they are not exactly looked highly on. A decent PSU is one of the most important things on the build.

yes at the time i my power sup had just died and it was the only one i could get and has worked fine since but i did just upgrade my cpu vid card mb and ram do you think that could be the problem its just not suplying what it needs? anyway to check that out? i cant say for sure if i upgraded drivers but i was using my 4870 for about 2 weeks with the new setup b4 i upgraded the vid card that was the last thing i added

These new cards do use a lot of power and more than most people realise especailly on boot up. If you can try a different PSU that is a bit more powerful it wouldn't be a bad idea.

well i just tryed the 4870 in my pc no stuttering worked perfectly and i did notice there was no  memory clock MHZ drop it was a stable 1000 at all times but i did try my card in the other pc and it did stutter in that as well but in saying that theres less power in that pc than min so that doset rule that out now that ive put my card back in its stuttering when im in internet explorer and sitting at 900 mhz

so i was just about ready to pull my hair out nothing was working tryed all the fixes i had found on the forums... so i went back to the gigabyte web page and look at support again and found  
The screen will occur black lines flickering while using dual displays

so i flashed the bios and it was still flashing so i thought i will try one of the other fixes as well and disabled ati overdive and finally i have no flashing fingers crossed i have fixed thank you for all your efforts this has really pushed me to my limits and frustrated me to no end

Well glad to hear that you finally managed to find a fix for the problem.  Personally I am not a great lover of these extra programs that are supposed to make overclocking etc easier. They inevitably seem to cause more problems than they fix.

yeah i never overclock my card or even want but when i install just the driver i seem to have problems with wow and ccc seems to fix them so ive always installed it.. was really frustrating when i could finally see what the problem was but had no idea how to fix it  ..its working now but the fact that i cant enable ati overdrive is frustrating as it feels like a bandaid rather than  a fix but again cheers for the help
