New build - G31M-ES2L problems

New build - G31M-ES2L problems
« on: November 05, 2010, 07:52:12 pm »
Hi all,

I'm building a new PC at the moment, using  G31M-ES2L. I'm using Kingston RAM, 2gb PC-8500 (KHX8500D2/DG) and Intel Dual Core E7600.

The computer turns on, fans spin, no beeps - but it doesn't get to the bios screen, nor does it charge USB or power PS2 keyboards.

I've already returned one mobo to eBuyer for the same reason - I'm beginning to think it's something else.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

Dark Mantis

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The obvious first question is what PSU are you using to power all this?

Can you also just list your hardware so we have a better idea of what the problem could entail.

Thanks

Hi,

My PSU is a CoolerMaster one supplied with the case, 460w (RS-460-PCAP-J3). CPU is intel E7600, currently using onboard graphics (until my new card arrives),  Kingston RAM, 2gb PC-8500 (KHX8500D2/DG) and the mobo is a gigabyte G31m-ES2L

I don't have my hard drive and dvd drive details to hand at the moment, but I suppose it's irrelevant as it doesn't even boot to bios. As I previously stated, it powers on, all fans spin, I can hear the HD start up and the DVD drive is powered, but the USB/PS2 ports don't charge and it doesn't get to the BIOS screen.

I had the same problem with the same motherboard which I returned to the seller (eBuyer) who replaced it with a new one... but seeing as it's happening again I'm guessing it's something else.....

Thanks for the response

Can you tell me if your motherboard is the latest revision of 2.3?

If so you will need at least BIOS version FC or more to run your processor, so maybe you could let us know what you have installed at the moment?

Have you got the 12V EATX power lead plugged in near the CPU?

It was the 12v lead! Sorry about this - I'm new to it all

Thanks for the help!

No problem that's what we are here for after all. Even now I still make the odd stupid mistake and it seems even worse when you have had so much experience. ::)

Thanks again for the help.

The packaging states I can OC the RAM to 1066, and I believe I have RAM capable of doing 1066, would you know how I go about doing this?

Thanks

If the BIOS doesn't pick it up and run at the rated speed automatically you will have to make the settings manuallly. The timings shopuld be printed on the side of the modules. Make a note of thes figure and then go to the BIOS and in the section for the memory management you will find an entry for memory timings and it will probably be set to Auto. Change that to manual and then enter the timing you have written down. Save and exit.

Thank you.

The box says "1066mhz OC" speeds only reached when OC'd

I'll give it a go.

Thanks.
