GA-785GMT-USB3 strange high pitched sound .
« on: November 15, 2010, 01:57:23 pm »
I seem to be getting a strange high pitched sound whenever using the mouse or keyboard ,its worse when using the mouse for example dragging a slider to scroll down a page seem louder ,but its there with every mouse movement and with every click of the keyboard .
I have the mouse keyboard both plugged into usb ports (yellow) the ports that share with firewire and (i think) esata.
I dont have them connected into the top (mouse/keyboard) ports as I found the computer regularly starting up and not recognising the mouse or keyboard .
the sound is high pitched and I have not yet isolated exactly where it is coming from ,I did think it was coming from a belkin wireless adapter ,but alas with that and all speakers dissconnected it still does it .
anyone else have this .

Hi there,

I haven't actually had your problem but there has been a lot of instances of strange noises on the Intel Platform and I experienced a strange noise on the GA-790XTA-UD4 but only if I opened Google Chrome browser. With my noise problem it stopped if I removed the mother board speaker.  :P

The real problem with this kind of thing is trying to track down exactly where the noise is coming from, Motherboard, CPU, PSU or other hardware or if it is due to some piece of software. Apart from the obvious things like trying different USB ports for your mouse and keyboard or trying different ones the only other thing I can think of is trying to find where the noise is actually coming from. The first place I would be checking is the PSU as this seems to be the most common area for noises.
Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

thanks for the reply , I remember dialing the wrong number once on my telephone and getting a fax line ,this noise reminds me of that ,just a few notches higher in pitch ,but it has a sort of warble to it like the fax tone.
there is no motherboard speaker so I cannot remove that ,I can here it on my headphones quite distinctly .removing the headphones does nothing though and I can still hear the sound eminating from the general area of the PC , I will try switching the mouse/keyboard to another usb socket (pair) and see about that , could the monitor be giving off this sound ?

crisis over , it was the gigabyte software (easy energy saver) I had set it up to automatically run in the backround . it has a CPU throttling ability .I shut it down completely via task manager and the problem has gone ,go figure ,sorry for wasting your time , I had just (a few days ago) fitted a new cooler on the pc , I thought it was going to be that .
just relieved it was so simple to solve in the end .
I will pop along to the gigabyte website and see if its a known problem .

Hi,
yes there are known noise problems when using EasyTune and I think most of the latest BIOS updates have included a tweak to stop it.
