Continuous beep on startup, GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
« on: November 19, 2010, 01:53:03 pm »
Hello!

Im using a GA-MA790FXT-UD5P motherboard. And i got my new RAM today that i was about to install. Corsair Dominator 4x2Gb 1333mhz DDR3.
So basically i unplugged all the cables, used an anti-static bracelet and just popped out the old rams, whic also where Corsair DDR3, but only 667mhz, and only 3x1GB.
Inserted the new RAMs, and booted up. But all I get is an continous beep for about 5 seconds then it tries to reboot. I tried just using 1 stick at the time to remove the possiblity of faulty sticks, but still the same. Then I tried my old ones again (which were working fine btw) and I still get the beeps.
I've tried checking every chord so nothing is loose, and i believe i seated the RAMs good, although they seem very easy to remove, the clips or whatever u call it doesnt seat the ram by itself when pushing it down, you have to shut them yourself. I

My specs:
Motherboard: GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
CPU: AMD Phenom II 905e 2.5ghz X4
Memory: OLD: Corsair XM3 667mhz ddr3 3x1gb NEW: Corsair Dominator 4x2gb 1333mhz DDR3
GPU: Nvidia GTX 275 896mb

Im very thankful for replies =) I'm not that supergood with computer, although i've built this one myself..

Hi there and welcome to the forum,

Continuous short beeps would indicate that one of the power leads to the motherboard isn't connected properly. I would double check that the 24 Pin ATX connector and the 8 Pin 12V ATX connector (the one near the CPU) are seated properly. I have had this happen to me and it was the 8 Pin plug that hadn't gone home properly.

If the beeps are long then it would indicate a problem with the graphic card. Have you re-attached the power lead to the Graphic card? This is another power lead that it is easy to forget.

Hello! Thanks for the quick reply.

I checked all the cables coming from the PSU to the motherboard, all seem to be seated good. I've also tried to boot it without any RAM connected, still get the same beeps, so i think the mobo doesnt seem to connect with the RAM. I also did this wtihout my graphics card plugged in.

I dont really know what do to next. I'm pretty sure i weren't reckless with it when i changed the RAM :P

OK,

well as everything was working fine before you changed the RAM the problem is probably something simple.

The first thing I would do now is clear CMOS as sometimes changing RAM can cause problems here. If you are not sure how to clear CMOS check this thread: http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2286.0.html

I would also double check the main power connections on the motherboard as I have invested in a new Graphic card myself when I thought everything was connected properly only to discover, after spending over £100 that it was the 8 PIN ATX connector that had slipped out of the socket!  :'(

I've never tried clearing CMOS, but i will sure give it a try. Thanks for the link.

Im gonna quadruple check every connectors to be sure =)

I'll post a reply when I've tested this!

I think maybe your memory modules are not firmly seated as when you push the modules down into the slots the clips should automatically close.

Hello again. I tried the CMOS thing. Resetted it. Checked all cables. Still the same problem.
And about the RAM seatings, im actually quite unsure, im used to it automatically closing, but these ones doesnt seem to do it. If i open them up, then place the memory in the slot, and press down, it doesnt shut them. I have to do it by myself. And actually you can still remove the card when they're closed. Im not sure im just daft or something, so plz help me out here :P

That's good. Pleased it was something fairly simple and not a major problem.  :D
