GA-X58A-UD5 won't play with Corsair @ 1600mhz?
« on: November 19, 2010, 04:58:54 am »
GA-X58A-UD5, Rev. 1, F7d Bios
I7 920
Corsair 6GB, 2GBx3, 1600mhz, 9-9-9-24, model: TR3X6G1600c9
Window 7 64 bit

No matter what I try, I cannot get the memory to run at 1600mhz.  1066 and 1333 will run fine.
I tried the XMS, playing with timing, voltage for both cpu and dram.

Computer OCs to 3.8ghz and run fine, but will not post with memory at 1600.
I tried run stock speeds with stock core voltage. I tried running stock speeds with a little core increase....nothing!

Any help would be great.

I have a very similar build- only difference is my ram is OCZ and I got it running at 1600mhz. First of all try overclocking one thing at a time. Turn your cpu speed to default and see if you post at 1600. Also your ram can do intel's XMP 1.2 so try turning that on in the bios. Or if you are doing it manually make sure the ram voltage is at 1.65v. And make sure you got the ram in the 1-3-5 slots. Anw with that mobo and ram you shouldnt have any problems getting to 1600mhz. After you get your ram stable you can increase your cpu speed while decreasing the memmory multi so that it stays at 1600.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I am taking it that you purchased these memory modules as a matching kit.

Firstly I would suspect the memory and make sure that it is ok by running Memtest86+ on each module singularly for at least ten loops each.

Make sure that you have it installed in the white slots numbered 1, 3, 5

Attempt to bump up your OPI voltage, CPU VTT, and CPU PLL.

I got my OCZ 2000 running at 1600 (lol, 10-10-10-30,88,2T, sucks I know but that was the rating at 2000 which is not supported by this board, no multiplier to get there at stock BCLK 133) with 12 GB and my 950 running at 3.8.

How about helping others and let us know what did the trick?  This board is picky and knowing what you did could help, thanks.

Hmmm maybe he read the manual - whatever it was, I guess he is not owning  up :)

I worked out the memory module arrangement by accident - I had mounted the cpu cooler first and noticed that the first slot was quite close to the cooler, so I went for the second (white) slots - could be a trap for first timers. Of course it is possible Gigabyte designed it that way to allow for large coolers.

Glad he has got is sorted

This is one of the trouble with forum threads, people stay until they find the solution tom their problem and then just leave and neglect to say what actually fixed it. Such is life :-\
