If your graphics card completely covers the southbridge, which runs hot anyway, can this cause temerature problems?

In a word yes. Anything that hinders the airflow over the chipset can cause an overheating problem. I would suggest using a small fan and make a bracket so that it points directly at the southbridge heatsink.

Yes you can but double check for compatibility with your motherboard before buying and also check against your other components to make sure it will fit. You can always add a fan to these if you find you still need a bit more air-flow.

I have already installed the graphics card and it completely covers sb. Temp feels ok to touch. I wish all motherboards had sb and nb temp sensors as standard.

Try running some heavy programs to stress it and thensee what the temperature feels like. If it is still not too hot then you shouldn't have a problem.
