Memory Mapping

Memory Mapping
« on: December 06, 2010, 07:49:23 pm »
Hi there everyone
Now, prior to buying 4GB of crucial memory for my upgraded system ive come across this page http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/ComputerProblems/RAM-MemoryProblems/64-bit-Windows-7-pc-computer-isnt-using-all-of-its-4gb-ram-memory.htm
whilst browsing on the net.
I have a GA-EP35-DS3L Board with windows 7 64 bit installed.
I believe my chipset does not support memory mapping though im still not sure what this is.
So hopefully someone could explain in laymans terms how important this is and if there is any point in buying 4GB of memory if I cant use it all.
Otherwise I will just wait a few months and upgrade my CPU, Motherboard and get some DDR3 memory instead of spending money on my outdated board etc.

Thanks in advance

To be honest now is not a good time to buy memory anyway as it is set top drop in price soon and probably stay low for a good few months as more production comes on line (Samsung) and the present capacity is exceeding sales across the whole market.

Your board will use up to 8 GB of Dual Channel memory but as I said I would wait and save until you can upgrade your whole system.

As always DM, you bring me back down to reality when my mind and keyboard fingers start wandering  :-[
As it happens though, I have about £200-£300 available for a bundle upgrade but I am really undecided whether to go Intel or Amd, both have good and bad points and ultimately, for what i'll be using it for, I think it will be just down to personal choice.
Why is it though, that most pre built bundles tend to have Micro Atx boards?
Ive narrowed my CPU down to I5 (750 or 760) or Phenom ii 955,965,970 quad..possibly even a six core but to be honest I dont think I can justify the extra cost for six cores.
Thanks again DM and roll on January Sales!!!!!

I think that is a wise choice and most manufacturers will be bringing out new lines in the next couple of months so helping to drop the price of anything that is around at the moment also. I certainly think it would be prudent to wait to make your purchase.

Personally I wouldn't look at a micro ATX style board as it is too limiting for upgrades etc. You can always put your own bundle together but make sure that you choose quality components.

Yes I have looked at buying seperate,  using the bundles as a guide, but to be honest choosing the PCU is easy as the choice is limited and well documented, but the motherboard is a different matter, as there are so many to choose from, with an array of various chipsets (Especially with AMD) ,  features, and of course, price. Im afraid my limited PC knowledge doesnt stretch that far..even with the hours spent trawling the net for reviews and guides etc. So, thats why I was going to go with a pre built bundle, because you know the components are well matched(if bought from a reputable company such as Novatech or Dabs.com) Though maybe it wont be the best deal but the safest one for me.

cheers again for your input  :)
