single ps2
« on: December 07, 2010, 09:51:40 am »
I have a p55a-ud4 motherboard and I wonder is there some kind of hardware solution how to connect mouse and keyboard on single PS2 plug? Need it because I use KVM switch for two pc-s. Is it possible to rewire mouse and keyboard to that single PS2?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

Good question and not one I have seen asked before.

Even though both mouse and keyyboard will work in the PS2 socket I don't think it would be possible for them both to work in the same socket at one time. I think it would cause confusion of which signal was being picked up by the computer.

I may be wrong and it might be worth asking GGTS for a confirmationm of this as they have more technical details than I can get hold of.

You can contact them here:

I found this pinouts http://www.networktechinc.com/technote.html and in fact rewire can be done because each component (mouse and keyboard) need +5, gnd, data and clock. So +5 and gnd are same for both, other 4 pins are used:  two for mouse (data, clock) and two for keyboard. If only I could get in my hands wiring pinouts for gigabyte motherboard PS2 conector. Can somebody help me with that? Than I can draw a solution for this problem.

Well it does look a little more hopeful then but I wouldn't hold your breath while waiting for the technical information from Gigabyte. I have asked for this type of thing for a long time but I am still waiting. Maybe you will have more luck than me. ;)

Can you be a bit more concise please. When you say doesn't work what exactly do you mean...one works, neither works ?

Are you sure that both components work properly in the computer on their own?

Hi

Actually Gigabyte is not the only manufacturer to use this configuration.

When I asked about the keyboard and mouse working I did mean in this computer?
Can you try the keyboard in there and see if it works please?

Hi! Sorry to bump in.

The single PS2 on GA-H57M-USB3  Rev-2 works fine for keyboard but mouse is not detected on this port.
