GA-X58A-UD3R - BSOD / boot problems :S

I just bought a upgrade pack including:

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333mhz 6gb CL9 (3x rams)
i7-950

From before i have:

OCZ 600 SXS
XFX Radeon HD 5870
4 HD's
1 cabinet fan.


So my problems started almost instantly.
I formated and installed vista x64 (dont have win7) on my c: partition. After a couple of boots i get some BSOD's, they flash so fast i have no chance whatsoever to read the error.
My system is running ok, i play some hours of NFS. I shut down my comp.
Next day i try to run it im getting BSOD's again a couple times, then its not letting me boot into windows. I get the loading screen, then just black.

Now im switching to a new HDD, install windows again, its ok, but, i cant plug inn the old HDD with windows on it (+ it has other stuff on another partition), without it not wanting to boot up windows again.

I unplug the old HDD with windows + other stuff, and then i can boot up. But im getting random BSOD's...

This is really annoying...
Im not a wizz with computer testing so go easy on me :p
I also do not overclock whatsoever.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

First thing I would advise you to do would be to go to Control Panel/System Properties/Advanced System Settings/Advanced tab/Startup and Recovery/Settings and untick the box marked Automatically restart and then OK.
That will stop the system rebooting before you can see what the BSOD says.

Can you post the exact model of memory kit that you have installed ?

You would be best off deleting the old Windows files or formatting the partition.

So now my computer was standing all night stalling on installing windows update. hadto just reboot it while in the progress when i woke up.

Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333mhz 6GB CL9
Kit w/3x 2GB XMS3 modules, CL9-9-9-24, for Core i7

I bought this as a upgrade kit. All included. So there is no reason it should not fit with the mainboad..



+ Everything seems really slow, i mean this is i7 950, it takes a long time to boot.
And sometimes it just gets stuck in the BIOS loading screen so i hafto power down and power on again to make it work...

Have you disabled all the things that you are not using in the BIOS? Like the floppy drive, ESATA etc

No, everything is default.

If u dont mind, could u give me a rough list of things i should disable?

Im running 5hds, 4 of them trough sata. 1 on IDE (lol).
and ofc GFX on pci-express. and a soundcard on regular PCI.

It is rather hard to tell someone else what to disable as a lot of it depends on their specific system and how they use it.
Personally I would disable the floppy drive, ESATA, USB3, EIST, C1E and C3 etc but as I said it depends on usage.

You might find that running the IDE drive and SATA drives on the same board will give you problems.
Are you running any drives in AHCI mode?

Dont really know what usb3 does either but.

I guess im not running any drives in AHCI mode.

I have my cdrom + an old HDD on IDE, as i hadto get a new HDD to install vista on. and that was an old one with IDE only.


Is there any programs i can run too see that my motherboard/ram/cpu is working as intended and not damaged in any way? :-)

Your computer does run ok doesn't it? From your post you said it runs Windows just takes a long time to boot up. If that's the case then it is just a case of trying to speed things up a bit.

You might be better off taking your system to a local store to have it looked at  as with your level of knowledge you are going to find it tough to get it running how you want to.
