x58-ud3r showing only 4 gb usable ram out of 6 GB ram.

hi frnds. i built my pc with config
i7 930
x58-ud3r
500gb hdd
6 GB ram (corxair diminator)CM3X2G1600C8D
800 WATT psu

but mortherboard is showing ony 4.0GB usable out of 6.0 GB?
i m using win 7 (64-bit)

bios also showing 4096MB ?
what should be the problem?

I don't know what BIOS version you are running presently but this is an issue with this motherboard and certain BIOS versions. From memory I think it was with the first one FA. If so try updating the BIOS to the latest one and see if that cures it. Don't forget to use QFlash to do it and tick the disable Keep DMI Data.

You need to make sure that is the case. Make sure that you have it in slot 1.

If one is totally DOA then that is easy but I would make sure before RMAing them both.

Did you buy them as a matched kit?

Looks from your pictures to be the standard problem with FA.

DOA is short for Dead On Arrival.

As I said it seems to be the standard problem with BIOS version FA.

You will need to update your BIOS using QFlash to the latest version. I take it that you are using the revision 2.0 board?

Please be aware that I have the same gear and the same problem

By updating your BIOS you will be embarking on a nightmare of cold boot errors and other boot problems even by using the latest Fe1 beta BIOS

If you can live with it stick with the 4Gb problem until a  BIOS workaraound has been produced.

I have been fighting this problem for 10 months

The latest beta BIOS is the best yet but still causes problems on cold booting

Check back on this forum regularly for updates

and on http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/28441-gigabyte-latest-bios.html for the latest BIOS's for your board

To be fair Bob I know that is what happened in your system but it may not present itself in the same way on a different system. As we know most configurations behave differently even if they are very similar. I would think it would be usefull to you to see what the OPs computer responded like in this situation.

i got new mobo from gigabyte they replaced my last mobo with new one,so i m not getting cold boot problem.

yes it is rev 2.0,flashing new bios will fix the problem?
i will not lead to cold boot problem?

There is nothing to stop you trying it and then if you do find that you have the same problem as fatbobuk you can always flash it back to FA again.
Just make sure that you use QFlash.

Yes I thought it was revision 2.0 so that should be fine.
