SOLVED - 890fxa-ud5 v2.1 - weird sleep mode bug...
« on: December 21, 2010, 09:58:37 pm »
I just built this new box today. I first noticed that after about 10 minutes in the bios, my monitor turns off and goes into sleep mode and will not turn back on unless I manually reset the computer. This has never happened before with my last gigabyte motherboard , so I assume it is a bios issue versus a monitor or graphics card issue.

When installing XP, it would go into sleep mode before resetting to finish the install, then my monitor works fine after that reset. I have a fast hard drive, so XP installs in time before I get the sleep mode bug.

When doing XP updates, I can't get them all at once because my computer monitor will go into sleep mode. The bios has been flashed with the most current drivers.

Do I have to return this, or is this a known problem? I need some suggestions as to what to do, this is driving me crazy! Took me two days to get this far. Please help!

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The first thing to do is to turn off all the power saving options oiin the BIOS and see if that stops the problem. If it does we can work from there.

Thanks for the fast reply... I will get to work in a minute.

Any idea what variable I need to change in the bios? The bios power management settings are very confusing to me.

I am the moderator for the Intel section and so am not so familiar with the AMD platform but there should be some settings for C1E and maybe C3 etc  just disable them and then press F10 to save and exit.

First I disabled the cool and quiet variable. Rebooted, monitor turned off after 10 minutes.

I kept reading the manual and found that C1E variable you mentioned. I am testing it now, will report back.

I think these two variables need to be moved within the bios from "advanced bois features," section to "power management setup." Now that I think about it, that would require a new manual to be made, so perhaps a new bios update can include a note stating that the cool and quiet as well as the C1E options are in the other section. This would allow you to make a bios update without having to update the manual. Also, it would make the user experience a lot better, since has taken me so much time and headache and cigarettes to pinpoint the location of this problem.

I am still testing, but so far so good! Don't reply back yet, I will edit this post in a few, I don't want to celebrate too early! I'll finish all these updates and then report back.

edit:

Looks like it is working! Thanks for the help. I will post back later if the problem comes up again.

Looks hopefull then. I thought it would probably just be that but best not to jump to conclusions straight away. ;)
