X58-UD7 - NO USB3 (USB2 WILL Work FM USB3 PORTS)
« on: December 23, 2010, 02:01:34 am »
As the title says, I am cutting my head off with this.   I have 3 USB 3 devices (ST Ram Cache/ST SuperCrypt/Vantec USB3 dock) and only the dock will be recognized in the USB3 ports and only in USB2 mode.

Thoughts?  I have tried updating drivers and then upgrading to the SuperTalent versions then rebuilt the system...still no luck.

Yes Mass storage and USB3 on in bios.  I have also upgraded the bios to the newest

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I have just helped someone else with a similar problem so it is probably easiest just to point you to their thread for a start. If that doesn't help post back.

I have the most updated bios for rev2 which is FC7

Tried all other suggestions no luck.  A reg usb2 device will work and my usb 3 ext dock will work as usb2 but 2 other usb3 will not even be recognized.

Is this an rma issue?

Any further thoughts or ways to test are appreciated...

I would believe it has to be driver as a usb2 drive will work fine in there...

I wonder if its not somehow getting enough power for usb3

That is always posssible although I would be suprised if it was the fault of the motherboard as it will normally supply more than adequate power compared to other makes because of the composition. Possibly the cable or the external boxes.

I would agree that it is more likely to be a driver issue. Did any of the other thread help at all?

No and this is really a pain as I cant find the same issue anywhere on the net which makes me think that it may not be a driver issue so you see both sides. I run the site www.thessdreview.com and got the board because the ASUS just wasnt cutting it in USB 3 whatsoever.  The bigger board was also needed compared to the rampage because I just got a Revo for testing and have a LSI 9260-8i on the way.

I am truly hoping it is the board because another is on the way and I am pushing this review to get the P67 which they have only let one other have thusfar...

So goes my tribulations..

Oh the USBs that wont work are a Super Talent 32GB Ram Cache and 64Gb SuperCrypt which work fine elsewhere

And Tx for your help...truly.  If I can ever return the favour...

Oh as well....there is power going into the usbs that arent recognized...they heat up in fact...

So we can rule out the drives themselves then as they work elsewhere.  Have the cables been check with the drives also?

What cables?  The USB3 ports are direct from their back connector and the drives plug in direct?  I have been wondering about that one because I heard it a few other times and wondered if there was something in the internal cabling I am missing???

No it was just that I thought that we were talking about larger drives that sat on the desktop. I should have checked first. I can't really see power being an issue here though.

I am taking it that USB 3.0 is enabled in the BIOS though?
Yes I saw in your first post that it is.
USB Legacy Storage shouldn't be enabled in the BIOS really as that is just for  the pre-Windows environment.

To be honest we haven't had a lot of experience on the forum with any USB 3.0 devices as there haven't been many around until recently. I personally haven't any USB 3.0 units so nothing to test with  I am afraid.

Well I thought that somewhere in the BIOS was the option to let the OS run the Plug'n'Play rather than the BIOS but I can't find it at the moment.

The thing is with USB Storage Functions it enables them prior to Windows being booted but sometimes this can cause problems in the OS.
