GA-X58A-UD7 (rev. 1.0) : Problems with HDMI out
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:48:20 pm »
Hi,

I have an ASUS EAH5870 vga card connected to the first pciexpressx16 connector and when I install any version of the ati driver, a black "band" appears all around my desktop only when i connect the monitor to hdmi.
So i thought it was a vga problem and after a lot of calls to assistance i  bought a new one vga card: asus eah5450 (just to test it).
with my surprise i noticed that there's always the same problem; the installaton of the driver was successfull, with my monitor connected to vga standard connector all is good but with hdmi i have the problem i told.

can be a problem of compatibility between asus card and my gigabyte?

i also tried with my sony tv and the problem persist.

please HELP ME!!

thank you.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The problem you are encountering is because you are using an HDMI cable and port to drive a monitor and it is expecting a TV. The card is underscanning as on a TV screen it would fit fine. You just need to set the scan level higher to overscan.

Quote
The history is ATI assumes that if you connect an HDMI cable then you are going to connect it to a TV. Most tv's are configured with overscan so ATI defaults to shrinking the image by 15% when using a HDMI cable to ensure the entire desktop will be visible. Consequently, connecting it to a pc monitor using a HDMI cable will only show 85% of the desktop.
The solution has to ways of achieving 100% desktop view.

Thanks to CoolDude64 for supplying this answer, it's much appreciated.
