New PC Build - Need some advice

New PC Build - Need some advice
« on: January 01, 2011, 04:53:48 pm »
Hi everyone.

Been a while since I actually built a PC that I cared about speed and stability at the same time ( 4+ years).

So I am looking to build a replacement home PC.  The use for this PC will be as follows ( in this order)

1> HD Video editing ( just got a new CX550V ;) )
2> Picture editing ( I do a lot with Photoshop, etc)
3> Quite as possible ( not looking for 100% silence, but hate having that constant whine from a lot of fans)
4> Some games playing, but not a power gamer by any stretch
5> General use computing ( ms office, internet, etc)

So this is what I am looking at currently

CPU: AMD X6 1090T
MB: GA-890GPA-UD3H
MEM: 2x4GB  ( may go 4x4GB)  ( need some advice.  see below)
PWR: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W
HD: WD10EALX ( WD SATA III Caviar Blue  1TB)
Other:Sony BD-5300S-0B 12X Blu-Ray Writer, Antec Three Hundred Illusion Black Steel ATX Mid Tower , etc

So the main thing I am trying to do is keep this around $1000 (US).  And really the memory is my main concern.

Trying to figure out what 4GB memory sticks will work on this box at 1333 ( not looking to overclock or anything).  the only one on the QVL is Hynix which is a company I have never heard of.  Looked at a number of the posts here, but most are using 2GB sticks.  Looking for some advice on what others have used successfully on this MB/CPU combo for 4GB sticks.

Thanks in advance.  Any Happy New Year!

Hi,

the best advice that I can offer is what would I buy if it was my money. The prices over here in the UK are a little different to those you pay in the US but a quick look at Newegg and I have to say I would be buying these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145313 Yes, I know they are 1600MHz but they will run OK at the slower speed of 1333MHz. I don't use these myself but I have put them into a couple of builds I have done for friends without any issue.

If these are not the kind of thing you are looking for then I would suggest you try finding RAM that runs at 1333MHz and 1.5V by default as these are the default settings on the motherboard.

Remember, when all else fails a cup of tea and a good swear will often help! It won't solve the problem but it will make you feel better.

Since your not going to overclock you can save money and buy normal memory. Crucial has a good rep and has an 8 gig kit available. You may be able to find the same kit elsewhere cheaper? If you buy directly from them they will guarantee compatibility. Just make sure you enter the mother board model into their memory advisor tool when placing your order. http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=GA-890GPA-UD3H&pl=Giga-Byte&cat=RAM#

Thanks to both for the quick response. May check out the Crucial set just because it looks a little cheaper.  Thanks again
