GA-M59SLI-S5 - No longer able to use primary (Slot 1) PCI-E slot

Hi

I recently encountered a problem where my PC no longer posts when I try to use the primary (16x) PCI-E slot. The 2ndary (8x) and tertiary (16x) work fine, but using the tertiary slot buggers the use of my two PCI slots due to the enormous heatsink I use on my video card (Gigabyte nvidia 7950GT). The video card is by itself, there are no other video cards. Any hints?
- Video card has power connector attached
- PCI-e power slot has power attached

System Setup is:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
2GB of Gskils DDR2 RAM (single channel) - F2-5300CL5S-2GBMQ
1TB Western digital SATA2 HDD
500 GB Western digital SATA2 HDD
SATA2 DVD Drive
Raidmax RSS-500 (500W) PSU

Hi and welcome tot he Gigabyte Forum.

Had you done anything prior to the card stopping working in the PCIEx16_1 slot?
A BIOS update or similar?

Have you optically checked the slot for damage etc?
