EP45-UD3L freezes during sleep

EP45-UD3L freezes during sleep
« on: January 05, 2011, 04:37:03 pm »
I've got a newly-built system using an EP45-UD3L rev. 1.1 mobo that has difficulty resuming activity after going to sleep.  Hitting a key or moving the mouse will bring the monitor back up, but the system is frozen.  Using ctl/alt/del will eventually bring it back to life, usually giving me a change user screen.  When it doesn't, pushing the power switch will shut it down after a few minutes.

In my attempts to fix this, I've reset the BIOS, checked RAM voltage, and disabled Win7 settings to reduce any hits on the system.  I have not flashed the BIOS, but will do so if necessary.  I have not overclocked at all, but I did try upping the RAM voltage to 2.1v to see if that had any effect (no).  The Event Viewer is a nightmare to me, but I would think a solution can be found with a little help to decipher its contents.  Other than this problem, the system performs quite nicely.  I've not had any other problems other than this.  Here are the particulars on the build:

Motherboard:     EP45-UD3L rev. 1.1
Proc:                 Intel Wolfdale Dual-Core E6500 2.93GHz w/stock heatsink
RAM:                 G.Skill PC2-8500 (2x1GB) Model F2-8500CL5D-2GBPK
Video:               Asus EN8400GS Silent/P/512MB
Power Supply:   OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP / Modular
Hard Drive:       WD Caviar Black WD7501AALS
Optical:             Lite-On iHAS424-98

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I would certainly advise you to update your BIOS to the latest version using QFlash.

Download the latest BIOS version from the  Gigabyte website and unzip it to a USB pendrive.

You need to use the smallest USB drive you have and put the BIOS update file on there.

In the BIOS you need to make sure that USB Legacy Storage or something similar is enabled and USB Legacy Devices also.

Change the boot sequence to find the USB HDD first and disable the floppy drive altogether.

Make sure that you insert the USB pen drive into one of the main USB ports on the motherboard before booting up.

When in QFlash make sure you set it to Disable the Keep DMI Data on the home page.

You will probably find that the drive will appear as a hard disk drive when in QFlash.

Mantis, thanks for the info.  I've downloaded the F9 Bios, and will have to use the only flash drive I have, a 2GB Memorex TravelDrive.  If you think I can safely update with a drive this size, I'll proceed.  For what it's worth, the drive hasn't been abused, and has only moderate use since I've owned it.  If you think it would be safer to use a 1GB drive, I'll get my hands on one.

The 2 GB drive should be fine. The size is ok but sometimes it just seems that the BIOS utility doesn't want to see the drive. Make sure that you format the drive as FAT32.

10-4, I'll start immediately.

Thanks again Mantis, I'll post back as soon as I'm done.
