Namaste.
I have an issue where no matter what speed I overclock to, Windows 7 will sometimes freeze on the loading splash screen. Sometimes the PC locks up right before the splash screen with a black screen.
The overclock is 100% stable under Intel Burn Test.
My specs are:
E5200 @ 3.33GHz stock volts
Asus 5770 1GB
2x2GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR2 800
InWin 460W
The memory is running slower than what it's rated at (711 MHz) right now. The voltage for the CPU isn't the problem either as I've run the chip at 3.33GHz on another board (Foxconn G31MX-K 2.0) at stock volts and it was rock solid.
Apparently this is a Gigabyte BIOS issue. I recently ran into an issue where the PC would simply not go past the Windows 7 splash no matter how many times I rebooted and tried.
I looked up the problem and the solution was to unplug the PC from the wall, take off the battery for atleast a minute, go into BIOS and load optimized defaults, then boot into Windows and do a clean shutdown. The overclock worked fine after that but there are times when the PC would freeze at the splash screen or before the splash screen even now and I have to reboot multiple times to get to Windows.
I tried flashing the latest BIOS, didn't help. Oldest BIOS didn't help either. I also tried flashing the latest BIOS with Flashspi instead of QFlash, but it's the same problem.
Needless to say, this is a big problem. I really don't want to be reseating the BIOS battery every time I want to start up the PC.
Please help me with this issue. Thanks in advance
