G'Day Folks,
I have just built a PC with the following specs.
P55-UD3 BIOS F11
I5-760
HD 5450 Graphics
2x2GB Corsair xms3 RAM @1333
2 x 500 GB WD Caviar Green SATA drives
Win7 Home Premium 32bit
My question is...
I have configured the drives in Raid 1 config on the Intel ICH10 controller.
However, I did not enable the XHD option in the Integrated Peripherals Bios
as it was not clear to me that I should do so.
It appeared to me that it was only used for Raid0 configuartions.
Was I correct in not enabling this option?
If it does need to be enabled (for better performance?) can it be done now that the system is running?
On another note, I have noticed several posts relating to failures of these Corsair Memory modules.
I also experienced a DOA condition on one of my sticks.
The failure was such that on Power on, the PC would show the initial screen, beep (several combinations)
and restart again. This would just keep repeating.
Thus it was not possible to run the Memory test program.
The only option to troubleshoot was to remove components.
Thus, it would seem that these Corsair memory modules cannot be recommended.
A second note is that my configuration also exhibited the intermittent Beep issue associated with the i5 CPU - Gigabyte MB combination mentioned many times on the web.
Yes, I had Enabled the CPU Temperature warning in the BIOS - and the cure was to Disable it.
It is important that any builder adds the Buzzer to be aware of such issues, and I believe that Gigabyte should include them in any Mobo that does not have an internal one.
Otherwise, all is running well.
Thanks to the Moderators for a great forum.
