GA-X58A-UD3R is possible memory to 2133 ??
« on: January 21, 2011, 03:48:18 pm »
Hi to all

This is my first post, and I have only one question.

Is possible configure my X58A-UD3R
 to 2133 with my i7  ?

And how to configure in Bios, because I put to 2133 my G.Skill PIS DDR3 2133 PC3-17066 4GB 2x2GB CL7 and doesn't work, I try to modify the DRam Voltage to 1,65 but windows crash when appears wellcome screen.

Thanks and sry for my english.

 ;)

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

It is unrealistic to expect your memory to actually run at 2133 Mhz. The memory might be rated for that and you should  be able to use that RAM at a faster speed than you would normally but don't expect to get all the way there.

You can probably use the better specs to run your memory at tighter timings at a lower speed giving you better performance. The only time memory rated at that sort of speed comes into it's own is when the system is overclocked above about 4Ghz.

Can you also list your hardware with proper model numbers as your board is incorrect. (corrected now - mod)
Besides ideally you should have purchase a triple module kit for the i7 to make the most of the available memory bandwidth.

Thanks for fast reply.

My configuration is :

X58A-UD3R
G.Skill PIS DDR3 2133 PC3-17066 4GB 2x2GB CL7  I have four modules 2Gb , a total of 8gb
i7
corsair SSD 80

I understand the memory 2133 is possible but I don't now how to configure.

thanks .

Right well firstly check that the modules are inserted in the correct slots depending on whether you want to run Dual Channel or Triple Channel configuration. It is listed on page 16 of the manual:

http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-x58a-ud3r_v2.0_e.pdf

Next you will need to go into the BIOS and go to the MIT section.

If your memory comes with an XMP setting attached to the SPD then all you have to do is enable it under XMP Profile.

If not you are goiing to have to enter the timings and voltage manually.

You can set the memory voltage to 1.65v(1.66v)

The timings I would suggest trying at 7-10-7-27 and you might be lucky but I somehow doubt it. You will probably need to back them off a bit to 9-9-9-24 and if so you can try dropping the voltage too at 1.5v -1.55v

ok, I put the timmings you say me, attach a link for you see this.

http://img513.imageshack.us/i/dram2.jpg/

The system is stable, but in the memory multiplier, have x12 and the result is 1600, if I try to change to x14 and memory 2133 , windows start and when this is in welcome screen , crashing and blue screen appears.

I will change another one ? or 7-10-7-27 with x12 1600 its ok ?

thanks

If that is so, have you made sure that the Uncore follows it because it must remain at 2x the memory multiplier at least.

You need to look in the BIOS/MIT/Uncore and QPI Fetaures/Uncore Clock Ratio and it needs to be se to twice your memory multiplier setting at least.

No the memory multiplier not the frequency! It's the setting above frequency in the BIOS.
I think you  said it was 12 or 14.

Sry Dark but I don't now you say me, now I have the memory multiplier to 12x and the result is 1600 of frecuency, but you now say me to put on x14?

If the memory multiplier is on 12 at the moment the Uncore should be set to 24 - 26

If you increase the memory multiplier to 14 (which is what you were trying to do) then you will have to set the Uncore to 28 - 30

Ok I try to put the uncore to 26-28 with memory at 14 for 2133 and doesn't work, the system pass bios and after reboot and reboot another one.

At the moment have 7-10-7-27 and 12x to 1600  with dram voltage to 1,50 and works fine.

Is better configuration possible with this mother board and with this memory ? or I can change the values to improvement memory velocity ?

thanks.
