i have an intel SSD, and im confused as to what sata port its to be connected to, and what im supposed to setup in the bios in order for it to work
at the moment the ssd and my other 500gig hdd are connected to the very top 2 ports sata 2, 0 and 1 but i think that may be wrong ? ? ?

Hi

No you have it totally correct. The SATA2 ports are the best ones on your motherboard especaillly for the SSD. They will pass the TRIM commands on to the drive to keep it healthy and if you set the port's controller, the Intel ICH10R (southbridge), to AHCI mode you will get the best speed out of your drives.

It is a good idea to put your optical drive on another controller's port though as sometimes it can lead to problems.

Well I think you probably have all the right drivers already installed. You need the chipset drivers, none of the RAID drivers, in fact the easiest way is to just download the latest ones from here depending on your motherboard's revision:

If you don't know it's not a daft question! ;)

Have a look on the bottom left hand side of your motherboard and it will be printed in white lettering just below the PCIE slots.

They are for the GSATA ports. If you don't use them then don't bother to install them.

As long as they are all working alright then there is no problem. Sometimes the optical drive can play up when on the same controller as the boot drive but as long as it's not don't worry.

I take it that you are using the SSD as the boot drive and that is where all your OS files are stored. If so I really can't see why the missing bootmanager issue should come up.

Only too happy to help.

As I said I can't think of any reason why it should make any difference having the two drives on neighbouring ports. The only thing to do is move the offending drive to another port. At least for now.

Another thing that did spring to mind though is do you have your swapfile on the SSD too ? If so I would move that to one of the hard drives. Also don't use a defragger on the SSD. It makes no difference to performance how much they are fragmented.

What make and model is the SSD ?

When you updated the firmware did you make sure that it was the only drive connected to the system?
