p55a-ud3 I'm stummped, 2mobos, 2 cpus, still no video
« on: February 09, 2011, 05:05:45 am »
Original problem was the 4x pcie slot was the only one to give me video. I RMA'd the mobo, they said it checked out fine, sent it back, I still had the same problem. Rma'd the mobo again, this time can't get any video at all. So, I rma the cpu, still don't get any video. I'm using an evga 9600gt. I have 2 of these cards, neither of them work with this mobo at the moment. So, right now I'm trying to borrow someone's pcie video card, see if these mobos don't like my video cards.

So, with that info, what do you guys think is wrong? I've also tried to clear the cmos tons of times. This is nearing 3 months I've been working on this problem...  I'm going to go pick up one of those speakers to listen to the beeps in a couple days.

Using Gskill Ripjaw ram, and a i5 760.

Hi and welcome to the Giigabyte Forum.

I would have suggested adding the buzzer right at the beginning as it could have saved you a lot of time and trouble.

Perhaps you could list your hardware by make/model so we have a better idea of what is running (or not) in your system.

corsair 650tx
p55a-ud3
i5 760
2x2gig gskill 1600mhz ddr3
evga 9600gt

Pretty sure I mentioned all of that info in my post except for the psu, not like it would matter at this point since I know the psu is good from my last computer.

I would suggest taking it all out of the case  and building it outside.

Make sure that you observe anti-static precautions.

Lay some cardboard or use the motherboard box that is non-conductive on the worktop and remove the motherboard/CPU/heatsink/fan/buzzer/one stick of memory and PSU from the case and put it on the cardboard.

Add the keyboard and now I know you haven't got any graphics but try and boot.

The system should try and then fail emitting a series of beeps.

Please post what sounds it makes.(you will have to wait until the buzzer is fitted)

Got a buzzer.

Plugged it in, and all I get is a constant series of beeps, very quickly, for about 5 seconds, then I think the board restarts, and the beeps come back.

Sounds like a power issue.  This psu was pulled from my old s775 system, it was working fine.

It does not have pin 20, but, my understanding is, newer components don't need that pin.

Well it could be a short causing the problem but from your description I think it is far more likely to be a memory problem. Try removing all RAM apart from one stick in the DDR3_1 slot and try and boot again. If you still have the same issue then swap the module over for another and try again.

No pin 20 is not required now.

Wow... Can't believe I didn't catch this... Since the bored I got back from rma was a rev 2, and I have the manual for rev 1, I never caught that they swapped the ram slots around...

So, moved the ram over, and guess what?  It worked.  Thank you so much.

Ah! They do that just to catch you out and see who is really paying attention!!

Anyway at least it's all running again now and that's what matters.  ;)
