GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 Marvel SATA 6 or ICH10R?
« on: February 09, 2011, 06:07:50 am »
I have heard about how bad the marvel 9128 driver is horrible and I see there are still no updates to it. I was about to redo my system soon, so I wanted to know which I should use? I am dual booting XP PRO 32bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Windows 7 will be on 2 RAID 0-1 TB drives and Windows XP will be on 2 RAID 0-250 gig drives. I was wondering which SATA controller would be best for each RAID drives? At the moment I have the windows 7 on the marvel and the windows XP on the ICH10R. Also how is the Gigabyte controller compared to these other 2? Can anyone recommend which ones I should use for best performance? Thanks.

Hi

Well the SATA2 Intel ICH10R southbridge controlled ports are the fastest on the motherboard. They are probably also the most stable. So I would tend to make as much us eof these as possible. The marvell chip has had several updates since it was released but none have fixed the underlying problem.

I figured as much.. I have been running from the marvel chip but I really don't see it being that fast.. so I am gonna switch both xp and windows 7 drives to the ICHOR chip instead. Thanks much for the info!
