MA-770 UD3/Phenom X6/ddr2 --- PERMA REBOOT
« on: February 10, 2011, 02:21:47 am »
Today I changed my motherboard to GA MA770 UD3 rev2.1 and phenom x6 1090T and ddr2 800mhz.
The system does reboot every 10 or so seconds. When I had my PSU 8 pin molex pluged into ATX_12V_2X4 system would not show anything on the screen. I`ve read somewhere on forums that I might try pluggin 4 pin molex into ATX_12V_2X4. So I did it and now it displays the mobo welcome screen. One time also displayed hardware check screen for few seconds. It said I have ddr2 (but without kb checksum) and UNKNOWN CPU... and it said it was updating bios EC and to not reboot... but it shut down by itself. From then I booted only once and it didnt go futher than mobo welcome screen.
My PSU is Cooler Master 700W RS-700-ASAA-A1. I had no problems with it on my previous rig.
What shall I do? What`s wrong?
Please help, I`m desperated...

Hi there,

sounds like you need a BIOS update for the 1090T CPU to be supported. You will need to use a supported CPU to flash BIOS and this can be a problem if you don't have access to another processor.

Latest BIOS for your motherboard is FKB and you can find it here: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3302&dl=1#bios

Supported CPU's and the BIOS versions needed can be found here: http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=3302

well, that sounds logical... but isn`t the UNKNOWN CPU message because I plugged a 4 pin connector into 8 pin slot? Might be getting not enough power to boot properly?

Hi,

the Unknown Processor message, if it appears at all, is common when the BIOS doesn't support the CPU. Quite often, users don't even see this message and the computer just won't start.

As I mentioned before, to run the 1090T processor you need BIOS version FKB and I doubt very much, if the board was shipped with this BIOS, which is why I think you need to update BIOS to get going.

thanks a lot, I`ll try doing this, my bro has phenom x3 720, that should be enough to  flash the bios... thanks again :)

If you haven't flashed the BIOS with Qflash before, I did that recently and have some advice:

1) Disconnect all hard drives -- this is because the naming conventions used in QFlash can be confusing
2) Download the new BIOS, expand it, and copy the files to USB stick.  Be certain the stick is formatted using FAT or FAT32.  Most are, but if you have a very large one formatted NTFS, that won't work
3) Stick in the USB drive, restart the PC, and if pressing <End> doesn't get you into QFlash, press <Del> to get into the BIOS and then press <F8> to get into QFlash
4) When QFlash starts, back up your existing BIOS to the USB stick.  You will need to select the Hard Drive (even though you don't have one connected"
5) Then, load the new BIOS from the USB stick
6) When you boot back into the BIOS, be sure to go through each main  menu and select Optimized Defaults (I think it's F7)

I normally avoid BIOS flashing lie the plague, but I had to do this recently and QFlash is a very good way to do it.

Good Luck with yours.

well, first thing, my standard logitech USB keyboard doesn`t seem to be anyhow responding. I tried both USB ports, case (after connecting case front panel) and back ports, ones on the mobo. Capslock nor numlock don`t turn on regular diodes.

No response... so I cant go to qflash or bios. But tried this on my X6 cpu which is not supported. Does it really matter?
Any thoughts on this?

Hi there,

Yes, it does matter if the CPU is not supported, you cannot flash BIOS unless you first install a CPU that is recognised.
Also the system will not go through the POST process if the CPU is not recognised so your USB Keyboard would not be discovered, hence the reason for it not working.

I thought it might be a problem related to USB ports...
Your answer seems to be a very true one. I`m without doubt now. Thanks for info.

If you are worried about the USB keyboard then you might want to do what I do in these situations and that is use a PS/2 keyboard. I have one that I use when updating or making changes to BIOS as I feel it is more reliable than my USB one.

ok, I stated everything was alright, but this because system was cold booting, stage I couldn`t achieve before.
BUT. I went on planned holiday and when I came back to instal windows and stuff... my standard USB keyboard isn`t responding. Same for my mouse. Can`t enter boot menu to choose CD and my old OS tries to run but stops at log screen. Why my mouse and keyboard don`t work?
When connected to laptop they behave normal...
Any ideas why my BACK ports and front ports (I have connected the front pannel and front USB ports) don`t work properly?
The red power diode on my mouse turns on for a second when I plug the device but a second or two later it shuts...
Please help me to solve this :)

I suspect that this is something rly stupid I did not think of...

anyway, I can`t see reason why back ports would not work.
I flashed BIOS at computer shop, I know it`s flashed because now it recognises my CPU. Why the hell keyboard does not work?
