BSOD surprise

Just ask in case anyone else has had anything similar???

This new build has been nice and stable other than the "Sleep" issue I posted about earlier however I had IMO an unusual problem.

I have been in the process of transfering copies of image files from my NAS to one of the internal HDDs and this morningwas copying across 30.1GB of them this was going AOK but I came back a while later to find the screensaver was frozen the disk activity LED was lit but the 'light' in the trackball was off.

The reset start button did nothing so I did a forced power down (4 secs on the power button) but when I rebooted I got a BSD type screen that mentioned amongst other things a failure in an allocated processor and that I might need to turn of in the BIOS shadowing & caching!!!!

Another reboot as advised by that screen brought up the System Start Repair tool which I let run but it found nothing niether did the W7 RAM tester.

When up & running again I checked the copied files and they were all there so the process had finished......but what went worng???  It was almost like it had gone in a sort strange power down!

Could it be the 3D text screensaver though I had been using it for a few hours of on time I started with the Bubbles one???

Any insights would be welcome

I would check the Windows power saver settings against the BIOS power saving settings as there might be a conflict there.

Having searched for such matters I have found two things?

USB select suspend in the W7 power management is enabled and in my Device Manager I see I have "othwer devices" a USB controller without drivers installed/  Couild this be the NEC USB3 ones as the only drivers I isnatlled were the Intel Chipset one, Ethernet & Audio ones.

The loss of power to my USB Tackball'mouse migtn be explained by the USB select suspend but why did it kickin???

I expect that was what it was but why is another matter. That is the trouble often with two systems trying to control the same things.

I have disabled the USB suspend in the W7 power settings

But and hopefully unrelated what about the yellow ! I am seeing for the "Other devices" "USB Controller"

On my next power cycle I will pay close attention to BIOS power control settings which for the record I have not touched so any feedback as to what 'look at' and amend would be welcome

Well I would make sure that you have all the chipset drivers installed and updated as that is the normal reason for the USB to be showing a problem.

I tend to steer clear of most of the power saving settings anyway being a petrolhead! No seriously though I find that on the whole they cause too much trouble and so end up disabling most of them and I always turn the computer and hundres of other peripherals off at night or when not used and they don't have a chance to power down during the day!!

I did download the most current Intel chipset drivers from Gigabyte website in readiness for the build so thay are current.

As for the msiing USB driver under other devices, as it was listed as "other devices" that is why I thought it could be the USB3 driver which I hae not installed.  For the record the list at the very end is USB and that is ! mark free

Try installing the USB3 driver then and see if it clears the problem.
