GA-X58A-UD3R (Rev 1.0) BSOD (freezes in Windows 7 ultimate)
« on: February 16, 2011, 12:49:01 am »
I've cleaned the dust out of my PC. Checked All PC temps (processor, motherboard, graphics card). Changed memory settings and have not overclocked the processor. I have tried to narrow down the source of the problem but I cannot figure out why my PC is constantly freezing.

The only thing I can think of is that it is related to video media. I have a TV tuner and it freezes more frequently when that is on, like 5 times a day.

If anybody has had this problem before please help it's driving me nuts!

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

I notice that you are running the stock cooler so make sure that it is still firmly seated to the motherboard at all four corners as this is a common problem.

What stop code does it display on the BSODs ?

Hello and thanks.

Perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology by saying BSOD there is no code it just freezes and the screen is completely gray most of the time (sometimes other colors).

I just cleaned out the dust and reinstalled the Heatsink and Fan before I posted here. It seems firm. Is there a way I can tell by the fan speed/monitor?

When you say re-installed the heatsink and fan I am presuming that you mean you had removed them. If so did you clean off the thermal paste from both the CPU and heatsink and re-apply fresh paste before re-fitting ?

Sorry for taking so long to get back, after you said that I ordered some new paste and a new OC type heat sink. The paste that was on there before was the original that comes with the intel processors. I often wondered that it didn't look like it was enough at the time of first installation but it was all I had.

I had not removed the heatsink though since first install and when I posted here a few days ago.

I will shake up this post once I get the new paste and heat sink.

Ok no problem. When applying the new thermal paste though you only need a bit about the size of a grain of rice in the centre of the processor before refitting the heatsink. Too much is as bad as not enough.
