GA K8NF-9 NVIDIA nFORCE4 unknown 1394 net adapter
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:34:23 pm »
Hi
Problem is that i have problems in device manager which i can't fix, its been driving me nuts.

1) Other PCI bridge device.?

2) Unknown 1394 net adapter.?

3) unknown  Nvidia nforce networking controller.?

It all started when i tried to uninstal ( PC tools firewall plus) the uninstall did not work properly and it left about 4 or more pc firewall plus adaptors, controllers, and others marked (pc tools firewall plus) these adaptors and controlers would not uninstall untill i did some work on the registry and then they uninstalled okay until i rebooted and here i am today.

Not sure if this is related but my Lite-on DVDRW LH-20A1P drive stopped working around the same time to. I have tested the dvd drive in another computer with a different cable and its still the same won't boot a cd or dvd. It is recognized in the bios and by windows but will not read anything, windowxp said it is working and has no problems.??

I have done the usual uninstall the devices and drivers and reinstall to no avail.

Anyone got any idea's.

Thank you for reading

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

If the drive responds the same way in another computer as in this one then the drive is faulty. If you have a cleaning disk you could try running that in it briefly as it is worth a try but probably just a duff drive. With the price of DVD drives now it isn't worth messing too much with it. I bought a new one off Ebuyer the other day for £11

Hi there
Yes the drive isn't that big a deal. The big problem is the mess with hidden drivers in device manager from ( pc tools firewall)  not uninstalling properly.
I am not the only one having trouble after uninstalling it. I am going to install it again and start again and see what happens.....

Download and install Revo Uninstaller and then reinstal your offending software. Afterwards use Revo to uninstall it. It is very thorough and should clear all the bits involved.

Just for future reference if you have any unknown devices in device manager with the hated yellow exclaimation marks there is a good programme called "Unknown Device Identifier". It gives a little nag screen but it is certainly helpful.http://www.zhangduo.com/udi.html

Yes I agree that this type of program can be useful but usually it isn't hard to discover what the unknown device is as you only have to look to see what is missing from your installed devices.

Hi
I installed ( Pc tools firewall plus) and then tried the program Revo to remove it all,  but it still didn't fix the mess. I had the drivers for the unknown devices etc and installed them but they refuse to load properly and after rebooting they were still unknown.??

I borrowed a sata dvd drive and did a clean install and now everything is fine again.

Stay away from Pc Tools firewall its crap. ???

Thanks for the help  people.

Cheers :)

Well I am glad to hear thta you managed to sort it out in the end even though it was a rather drastic solution. Sometimes it is the best way to tackle some problems. :)

Hi Guys

thats a real familiar problem to me, I had a dvd drive going into PIO mode, disabling the 1394 Firewire device and completely reinstalling the DVD drive was the only way to fix it, this has happened on a couple of Nforce motherboards, nothing too recent though.

Glad to see it is sorted out.
