Problem with GA-P55-USB3, no video output, phase leds on

Hello, I'm building a new system, here are the components:
-case codegen mod. 6236 with 580W power supply
-mb GA-P55-USB3 rev.2
-cpu i7 860
-2x2Gb kingston valueram cl9
-ati HD5670
-2xhd 500gb sata Seagate
-mast. dvd LG
-monitor asus VH198S

At the moment I'm working outside the case. I put the cpu on mb (GA-P55-USB3), thermal grease and heatsink, then connect heatsink fan, install ram modules (kingston valueram 2gb 1333mhz each cl9) in slot 1 and 3, then install vga (sapphire hd5670 with no additional power needed). I connect front panel reset switch, on/off switch, power led and hd led, my case haven't any speaker installed. Then I connect 20+4 pin atx power and 4pin cpu power in 8 pin 12v slot (since my power supply haven't the 8pin eps12v connector, PS is 580w by Codegen). When I turn the system on I get 4 phase led on all the time, cpu fan is working as well as gpu fan but there is no video output! I tried to clear cmos using the jumper, but I get nothing back. I tried to remove both vga and ram modules, but I get the same, I tried to use just one module in each slot, but nothing...
Can you help me to find the problem? Is maybe cause I used the 4pin atx instead of 8 pin eps12v? If I remove the 4pin atx connector I get the system working for 3 seconds then gets off then starts for 3 seconds again and gets off again.. and go on in loop.
I'm worried about I hear no beeps at all from the buzzer even if I turn the system on with no ram,cpu or video card installed on it, for that test I used a buzzer taken from another case, assuming it's working.
please help me!!!

Hi

Yes you need the 8 pin connector inserted for it to work with your setup. Do that first and if you still have a problem we can sort it out from there.

thank you for your answer but you have to know yesterday the system was working for a while... I did all the steps mentioned in the previous message but didn't applied thermal paste... the system was working but I checked the cpu temperature in bios and it said 88°C! so I turned it off and applied some thermal paste on cpu, but when I turned it on again happened what I said before... everything running but no video output, no beeps from buzzer.. nothing. So It means the system would work fine even without the 8 pin connector... so I guess the problem is the thermal paste, cpu or a damaged motherboard, is it right?

Well it is a possibility, obviously in those circumstances. The chip will have gone over the top before you even noticed it but hopefully the thermal shutdown procedure will have cut in  and stopped any damage occuring. It happens in a couple of seconds. I would still check your motherboard with n 8 pin plug as that is what it is supposed to have to work.

The chip will have gone over the top before you even noticed it but hopefully the thermal shutdown procedure will have cut in  and stopped any damage occuring. It happens in a couple of seconds. I would still check your motherboard with n 8 pin plug as that is what it is supposed to have to work.

I think the 88°C was a false temperature cause when I removed the heatsink the cpu was pretty cold, not 88°C for sure. However I've just ordered the atx cable adaptor 4 to 8pin... I guess I have to try this way

I just tried with the 8pin adaptor but nothing happens... I'm seriously thinking about buying a new motherboard

It might be worth checking the CPU socket for bent or damaged pins now that we know you had an overheat occurance.

Take all the usual anti-static precautions.

Very carefully remove the heatsink and fan. Probably a slight twisting motion is best to release the two as the thermal paste can act like a glue.

Once off remove the CPU taking extreme care both physically and electrically(static) and place somewhere safe.

Make sure that the lighting is very good and even.

Now scrutinise the socket for any pins that are out of alignment, even slightly.
If in any doubt whatsoever take a couple of macro (close up) photos of the socket and post them on here for us to check.

Also look at the bottom of the CPU at the lands (little copper circles) and make sure that there is a mark in each somewhere near the centre.
If there are any missing marks or any of the pins are obviously bent then that is your problem.

Before refitting the CPU clean off all residue of the old thermal paste and the same on the heatsink and then apply a small amount (about the size of a grain of rice) to the centre of the CPU once it is inserted in the socket.

The photos weren't really clear enough and the glare off the flash didn't help much either. I couldn't see any damage but as I say the pictures weren't really good enough to tell.

ah.. how can I clean cpu contacts? some of them in the corner upper-right look a bit dirty, mayba cause of my finger

The pictures are a bit better, not perfect but I would say that there probably is some damage there as they all look kind of funny to me and not quite right. If you look at the lands on the bottom of the CPU you wil notice that the marks are often right on the edges of them or maybe miss altogether. It is hard to be sure.
