890XA-UD3/1055T has begun to automatically shut off and restart on its own

Hi everyone!

My 890XA-UD3/1055T has recently begun to shut off and restart on its own accord.  It occurs about 2 times per day now and I am not sure what could be the cause.  Tonight I will run MemTest86+.

Anyone have any ideas for me?

Recently, I installed a brand new XFX 650 PSU, but these PSU's have great reviews and were built by Seasonic.

Is there some area of Windows that will reveal if these are crashes?

Last, I never reset my BIOS for the SSD.  Can someone help me remember, what to change for SSD?

Also, I did just revert back to optomized settings in BIOS after having the computer shut down so many times.

At the moment there are too many variables in the equation to make a qualified judgement. The PSU is a good one but anything can be faulty. You have changed the BIOS settings. There is the original problem ...whatever that was caused by.

Your BIOS settings for the SSD really are just whether it was set to AHCI or IDE mode and if you put it to the wrong one you wouldn't have booted Windows so I am guessing that it is correct.

check if TRIM is enable...

did you change the Paging file?

So sorry I did not give more info. Ok, here is some more info.  Hopefully this may help.

I never messed with the BIOS [I forgot to change the settings to accommodate the SSD].  I just installed the RMA's MOBO and never changed or looked at anything in the BIOS [I know, my bad]!

I did take a quick look at the BIOS and it appears as if all is set up for IDE, nothing on AHCI.  I forgot which BIOS settings to change.

The only changes/alterations I've done were done yesterday after seeing so many restarts.  I simply set everything for 'Optomized Settings."

I ran MemTest 86+ during the night.  No RAM errors.

Ok, any advice on what to do next?

Thanks for the post.  I installed the SSD 3-4 months ago and then did a clean install.  Unfortunately, something went wrong after I installed a GTX 460 [this was after 2 months of flawless operation].

The MOBO seemed dead after the GTX 460 install.  I RMA'd it and Gigabyte sent it back to me.  They told me it was a BIOS issue, but I found that kinda difficult to believe.

The BIOS they put on it now is F5.

I cannot remember what I had on it originally.  So, that is where I am as of this moment.

I am thinking maybe I should change some of the BIOS settings but I am not sure what to do.

No BSOD's, but once or twice a day the system will simply restart on its own...

Good point bytheway_r. I have a huge APC UPS system and tend to forget about power problems form the mains.

No need to worry about crashing the party.  No, it could not be a power outage because if the power went out, it would have registered on some of my other electronics.

All restarts have come to a sudden stop.  I am not sure why.  Perhaps it was the BIOS settings.  It did seem to stop immediately after setting the BIOS to optimized settings.

After a couple of days I also set all the AHCI settings as Absic recommended and now everything seems fine again.

Thanks again guys for helping me resolve this irritating issue of unwanted restarts...

And now for a side note: yesterday, after realizing you guys helped me to fix my restart issue, I used an application called "SSD Tweaker 1.9.1"

Have any of you heard of it before?

It seems to have worked for me but I was a bit nervous because I never heard of it before.

Any ideas on this application?

It is not something i have come across before either but then again there are such a myriad of programs on the net that it is not surprising. As long as your anti virus cleared it should be ok. It seems to do all the right things.
