what is best bios setup 890XA-UD3 for hard disk?

M.B GIGABYTE 890XA-UD3

cpu phenom II X6 1090t black editation

ram two corsair dominator 2 GB  1866 whit fan cooling

VGA EVGA geforce 460GTX SE 1GB GDDR5

HDD western digital - black caviar 1TB 64MB buffer sata 3  6GB/s

and 800 + 80+ power suply.

first Question : what is best bios setup for highest performenc? i any install update bios at this time

two Question : very Important . my hdd is very better than later hard disk ( wester caviar green 500GB 32MB buffer and sata 2 3GB/s) but rank in windows seven is equal . new hard disk black caviar sata 3 is = 5.9 and old caviar green sata 2 is = 5.9

this is not correct the new hard disk is very better performens from caviar green

please help me .

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The Windows Experience Index WEI is not much more than a joke I am afraid. 5.9 is hte top score any magnetic drive can reach. Even a pair of WD Blacks in RAID0 mode will still only score 5.9. To get any more than this you have to install a SSD.

Your SATA3 WD Black is much faster than your Green but don't forget that doesn't mean that it will seem faster in a lot of situations. It is also a better drive for a boot drive.

you Said black series is faster than by green but when i install green or black Both hard disk copy data from a drive to drive speed is 40 MB/s until 50 MB/s

Hi there,

The best way to configure your HDD is to attach it to one of the SATA3 ports and have the controller set to AHCI in BIOS but, f you have already installed your OS you won't be able to just change this setting. If you have installed the OS with the controller set to IDE mode there is a registry tweak that you can apply before you change the BIOS settings to enable your system to keep running properly.

Hi

SSD stands for Solid State Drive as opposed to a magnetic rotating disk drive as is more normal as a Hard Disk Drive. They are smaller, don't get hot and are silent.

The interface is faster on a SATA3 drive but the drive is still only capable of ripping data from the platters at the same speed as a SATA2 drive. So really it is almost irrelevant.

IDE is the older mode of connection/interface.

AHCI is the newer, faster more efficient mode that also allows HotSwap for external drives etc.

RAID is a way of connecting up several hard drives but allowing the operating system to control them as one. (a bit shortened but that is the idea)

First update to latest BIOS using the QFlash Utility.

Then in BIOS set:
OnChip SATA Controller to Enabled
OnChip SATA Type to AHCI
OnChip SATA Port 4/5 to As SATA Type
OnChip SATA RAID5 Support to Disabled
Onboard GSATA Controller to Enabled
Onboard GSATA Mode to IDE

Connect your Hard drive to one of the Blue SATA ports (SATA3_0 - SATA3_5)
Connect your DVD/CD Writer to one of the White SATA Ports GSATA2_6 or GSATA2_7

When you install Windows Operating System you will not need to load any AMD Drivers. Once windows has installed DO NOT use AMD AHCI Drivers as these are actually a little slower in performance then the Microsoft ones.

As I said before, if you have already loaded your Operating System using the Native IDE Mode you CANNOT just change to AHCI Mode. You will need to make a change to the registry in windows or do a clean install of the Operating System.

Bravo!  I have been trying to find the post where you showed me how to set up my BIOS for using the OCZ SSD.  I cannot find that post, try as I might!

Yep, these settings should be OK on your rig too!

Just remember if you have already installed the OS in IDE mode you can't just switch to AHCI Mode in BIOS without making a change to the Windows Registry first.

I think I forgot to mention the BIOS version I am using on my 890XA-UD3...

It is F5.

My system is running screaming fast!  Yaaaahhooooooo!
