Anyone try Corsair CMX4GX3M2A on the on the Gigabyte P67A-UD3 motherboard yet?

Hi everyone!

I picked up a good deal on Corsair's CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 RAM.

I was just curious to find out if anyone here has tried the CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 on the Gigabyte P67A-UD3 motherboard yet.

If yes, can you tell me how it worked?

I just checked on Corsair's memory finder and they are listed as compatible so there shouldn't be any trouble with running them. The only thing I would say is that the 2GB sticks are a bit small and the 4GB sicks are reaching the sweet point price wise. If you put in 2GB modules you are limiting yourself to a maximum of 8GB total for the board.

Thank you for helping me understand they should work just fine.

To be honest with you, I have never even considered using more than 8gb of RAM!  I always thought 4gb were enough for most applications and 8gb was overkill!

Ok, my million dollar question:  Why would I ever want to have 16GB of RAM in this new 2500k system?  What program or application could possibly need all that RAM?

As the 64 bit platform develops, more 64 bit programmes will become available that will utilise all of the available RAM. At the moment, 64 bit programmes are a little limited but, for example, I run Adobe Photoshop 64 Bit and would really benefit from 16 Gig of RAM. Also I use the 64 bit version of Steinberg's Cubase and the more virtual instruments and effects I employ the more RAM I need.

Even though you may not feel the need for such a lot of RAM, as DM says, the price of investing in a 16 Gig kit is now reaching the sweet point and it is something that really is worth more than a passing thought.

Wow!  I never thought of that!  I always do my best to future proof, but 16GB was never in my equation, perhaps due to my own ignorance.  Ok, I will look for a good price on the 4GB modules.  Hopefully they will continue to drop in price and I will be able to pick up 4GB x 4 modules in the future at a very low price!

Any suggestions?  Presently, only A-Data, Gset, and Kingston have QVL versions of the 4 GB sticks...

Thanks DM!  Ok, I am now on the hunt for a killer deal on 4 modules of 4GB RAM sticks.  Have you any suggestions as to the brand names or types?

I see no 4GB sticks of Corsair anywhere on the QVL list!

I'm sure DM will agree with me that Corsair Vengance modules seem to be doing the trick on both the Intel and AMD platforms. I tested 2x4 Gig modules recently on the AMD side of things and they were solid.

I believe DM has been using them in his recent review and has been pretty impressed by them too.

I would have to agree with every word absic said. The Corsair Vengeance modules seem to be terrific and I have had no problem at all with them so far. (I know it's a fatal thing to say!) The price was great and the modules look and perform well. What more can you ask.

Nice RAM, but you say the price is great?  You must be an heir to Bill Gates!  Here in the USA, 16GB's of Corsair's Vengeance goes for $269!  Gosh, that is almost more than I paid for my entire Intel 2500K/Gigabyte 67A-UD3 combo!

Please ask your Uncle Bill if he would like to contribute to "Poor Soar's saving for a Corsair Vengeance Fund."

The Corsair Vengeance RAM have excellent reviews and they look nice too, but they would not fit under my humble Hyper 212+...way too tall and way too expensive for poor Soar!

It is obvious that I am way out of my league here...You guys are the elite.  I am da poor boy!

Oh well, maybe next build!

Ok, I suppose I should count my blessings.  I only paid $9.99 per 2GB stick of the 1600 MHz DDR3 Corsair here.  So that was under $40 for all 8GB of Corsair CMX4GX3M2A.  I felt that was a good price.

$269 for 16 GB is way tooooo much for me at the moment, so I choose to be happy with 8GB for $39...well, at least for right now!

I wonder why you must pay so much there for RAM and other hardware.  I do not understand.  Is it tax?

Here, several vendors are now selling 4 GB of RAM for $19.99.  About 3 years ago, the DDR2 dropped in price to $9 per 4GB for several months, then it jumped up to nearly $80 for over a full year.  Really weird how the prices fluctuate.  I am not sure why this happens.

Anyway, when the price on DDR3 1600 dropped below $20 per 4GB, I stored up because I was concerned that same thing would happen and that the prices of RAM would go up again.  It is nice to have a little bank account of DDR3 RAM...IF the prices do not keep dropping!
