ga-x58a-ud7 rev 1.0 - no boot after flashing bios
« on: April 27, 2011, 03:10:49 am »
I just flashed the bios of my mobo, using Q-flash. It had the original F2 rev, i wanted to install the latest stable F7. The update process went fine, it finally prompted me to hit a key to reboot after indicating all had gone ok, but the computer now wont reboot. It turns on, but the monitors stay black. As read somewhere else, i have tried to revert to the backup bios (by: turning off the psu button, holding the cases' power button, turning on the psu until the mobo turns on, then turning off the psu again, on again, and finally the case on: but hasn't worked, am i doing it wrong? Now i read in a gigabyte page that's a totally automatic thing?).

Any clue how to get it back to life? How can i revert to a working bios?

Thanks in advance!

What program did you use for running the BIOS update ? If it was @BIOS then I can't say that I am surprised at the outcome. You should always use QFlash where possible as it is a much safer way of flashing as it doesn't run on top of Windows.

What you were trying is correct but sometimes it can take a few tries.

You can kick in the backup BIOS by shutting down the PSU from the wall, then hold down your case power button in and then turn on the power supply button, a few seconds later the board will start, shut off the power supply then.   Then you can turn on the power supply again and power up the board normally and DualBIOS will kick in.

Hi Dark Mantis.

I used Q-flash, as i indicated.

As for the method you describe for the dualbios to kick in, i have done that like a dozen times, but no response.

Is there anything else i can try? Should i RMA the board?

How many pins does the BIOS chip on your board have ?

Assuming that the bios chips are in the bottom left corner of the mobo, near the "Rev 1.0" mark, and identified as M_BIOS and B_BIOS, they have 8 pins each

OK, new facts, weird ones:

I have kept trying to do the rebooting sequence you described again and again, no apparent sucess. But at some point, i have left it turned on while i was typing something else on this laptop i'm using now, and oh surpise, the windows sesion login screen pops-out!

So: after flashin the bios, the computer is able to go into windows, but for some reason it won't post anything on screen, the screens remain in sleep mode until windows kicks in. Which is definitely not right. I can not enter the bios setup, nor see any boot messages: any ideas? :?

Thanks again, this is becoming interesting :)

while i'm able to enter windows, there are many errors when trying to access the hard drives, something is definitely wrong. Any suggestions?
