My P55M_UD2 is not working. Need another
« on: April 30, 2011, 04:18:47 am »
A chip on my P55M_UD2 went super nova. I'l like to get a P55 - UD3 or higher but just can't find them. Every site I go to shows them but they are always Out of Stock.  I don't want to go to a H55 series as I use a Video card. Also is it possible to repair the motherboard?

Thanks

Hi

It is not normal for a chip to burn out. I take it that you had increased the voltage for overclocking purposes.

The motherboard is under warranty for 3 years so all I can suggest is that you return it to your retailer for investigation.

Yeah I was overclocking. Odd thing was I was comming down. Had it at 4Ghz. for an hour but got a bluescreen so was comming down to 3.8 and the temp shot up so fast I couldn't turn it off before it shut down. Yeah i screwed it up but just curious why I can't find P55 type MOBO's anywhere.

Well you could still try the RMA route through your retailer as I am sure it would be repairable. If the P55 is unavailable why not move up to one of the X58 boards or even the P67 chipset ones.

Well I've seen  the strange now. I decided to just turn the PC on just for kicks. Low and behold it booted up. Don't need a new board after all.
Attached is a pic of the chip with a hole in it..
Thanks Gigabyte! One great board!

Well I am not sure but I think it is to do with the power phases. If I am right you might find that it will work alright until the board is calling for more power and then it will fail.

Either way my suggestion to RMA the board would be favourite. ;)
