P67A UD7 B3 Looping

P67A UD7 B3 Looping
« on: May 01, 2011, 11:25:06 pm »
Hello!

I recently put togeather my new build.Upon completion of said build I initiated the power button and arrived at the BIOS screen without any issues. I allowed the computer to remain on the BIOS screen for several minutes and upon exiting the BIOS I powered down the computer. I then initiated the power button again and the computer began to turn on and off in roughly ten second intervals.

I thought perhaps it could be a RAM issue, so I removed one stick of RAM (now the only populated slot is slot 1) and the computer arrived at the BIOS screen without any issues again. So, I re-inserted the RAM module (now the only populated slots are 1 and 3) and properly powered down the rig. Again, the computer arrived at the BIOS screen without issues and recognized the full 8GB of inserted memory.
However, it began to loop yet again.

Everything in the computer is "as is", no driver updates,no BIOS updates,no overclocking. At this time there is no optical drive or SSD/HDD installed in the machine.

Only the bare minimum.

Any thoughts?

Hi and welcome to the Gigabyte Forum.

The first thing I would like to mention is that you should not insert memory modules or for that sake any other component into the motherboard whilst it is powered up. It can damage both the component and the motherboard.

I think your next step should be to test the meory with Memtest86+. It takes a while but it is worth doing properly.

I would suggest that you download and run the latest version of  Memtest86+

Memtest86+        http://www.memtest.org/

Insert one stick of memory in slot 1 and run Memtest on it for at least 10 complete loops/cycles and if there are no errors then swap it over with the next one and continue untill you have checked all  modules.

If you have any errors the module is faulty.

If you have any faulty modules you will have to return the whole kit as they are matched.

Post back when you have done that with the results.

My mistake, I guess I misspoke.
I did not insert the RAM module whilst the computer was on.
I will run 10 cycles and post my results.

Ok fair enough but I just wanted to make sure as it is a quick and easy way to blow modules, slots or both.

Just post back afterwards and let us know how the modules got on.

After reading a bit, I found out that before running memtest I should have the RAM voltage and timings set to the advertised settings.
However I am not quite certain how to properly set the RAM voltage and timings.

The current settings are: 1.5V and the timings are 9-9-9-24.
The advertised settings are: 1.65V and the timings should be 9-9-9-27.

Hi

You didn't say what size the modules are but if they  are 4 GB each then the difference in what you have them set at now and the higher voltage setting is that it is a different speed setting. I expect the standard is 1333 and the higher one is 1600. So if you intend to run at the higher speed you will have to enter those timings and voltage.

Hello!
I have the same problem as Agryll (Topic: GA-P67A-UD7-B3 - Boot Loop won't POST) and DoomsWord89 (Topic: P67A UD7 B3 Looping).

I built my Computer with Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7-B3. Next I pressed the power button and the computer began to turn on and turn off. Re-boot repeated in ten seconds intervals and didn't posted any code to the mobo display. I tried to reset CMOS and applied sollutions presented by Dark Mantis and Digitalforce (Topic: GA-P67A-UD7-B3 - Boot Loop won't POST), but my computer still has the boot loop and nothing works.

After setting my voltage and timing both manually and through the supported XMP profile feature the board would still begin to loop.

I returned the board to my local computer shop for a refund after they tested it and found it began to loop with several different "set-ups" installed.

I wish the board had been up to snuff, but it simply is not....... :'(

Did you check the heatsink to CPU interface as a badly fitted HSF would cause this sort of symptom ?
